New Power 96 PD

Interesting how Bill Tanner selected an old school Miami guy as the PD at Power but there has been no noticeable difference in the sound of the station. The reason Power has been historically solid has been the stations ability to pull out the unique hits before they get overplayed on Y100 and other stations. Jill failed because she turned the station into just another generic sounding FM. If Pio is going to succeed, he needs to get Power 96 back to where it started. Call Kid Curry.

who is this new pd ? jill is still on their website

Pio Ferro.

Pio worked with Bill Tanner at Russ Oasis' stations in Miami, and in '95 went to LA as PD for Heftel's KLVE where he and Bill Tanner made it #1 in the market. Pio joined SBS in 2000 as VP of national programming, and then a couple of years ago was CBS's head of Spanish language programming.

With Pio as PD and Tanner consulting, Power has the real feel of Miami and a true "convention" of success all converging on 96.5.

(No, i don't work for them... I just think they are among radio's finest!)

Tanner gave Y100, HOT 105 a very unique sound to Miami. We can only hope the new PD along with Tanner will shake up Power, and bring some ratiings magic to the station.

I remember him. Didn't he have that failed morning show with El Africano in el Zol?

The station is just fine in the ratings now. It's consistently a very strong #3 in 18-34, and does similarly in 18-49.

The departure of DJ Laz has been both good for Power and bad for Laz... all Power needs is to keep up with the music and to continually freshen the sound. It's not a major makeover.... just ongoing attention to detail.

Yeah, when SBS ran into money issues due to the TV project, management forced that on him; that was among the reasons why he went over to CBS.

power is running thru pd's faster than i can blink, how many have there been compared to other stations since 2001... its the MUSIC... dump rap/ hip hop for crying out loud jamz and hot 105 will do just fine. they need a new identitiy move on. rap hip/hop is dying

They don't need to do anything precipitously. Power is #3 in 18-34, and an amazing #3 in 18-49 as well. Any changes they make will be gradual and well researched... nobody is going to jeopardize a prime sales position such as they currently had just because a fringe element doesn't like the music mix.

WEDR and WHQT are both core Black stations. Power has an Hispanic core with a sizable non-Hispanic white component. Y-100 is predominantly non-Hispanic white. WEDR, WPOW and WHYI are the top 3 in 18-34, but each with a different constituency.

i would preffer to like something more original/unique than lieking a yea mee too rap station...
