New prep service from Bob Dearborn

In his Radio-Info column today, Tom Taylor writes:

Bob Dearborn's offering an online almanac/prep service feature online, and he asks "Why are the typically spotlighted celebrities [in some other services] only from the Kardashian-Spears-Lohan-Simpson generation? Why are Canadian celebrities routinely ignored? What about stars of the sports, media and political worlds? Aren't they celebrities, too?"

Longtime jock Dearborn's stuff is at http://oldediscjockeysalmanac.blogspot.com/

More about Bob and the daily feature at the "Where are they now?" Board of Radio-Info.com

Wonder how he's doing? Always thought he'd be a great hire for WCBS-FM, WLS-FM or KRTH; wonder why he's never considered either moving back across the border or signing on once more with a Toronto station like CFZM-AM to work in a classic hits format?

I’m a long time Dearborn fan from way back. I lived in Arlington Heights Illinois before moving to Toronto over 20 years ago so I first heard him on a Chicago station. Finding him on AM740 8 or 9 years ago was a happy day for me. I was really upset to discover he’d been let go a year later because the station had financial troubles.
During the year he was here I started corresponding with him via e-mail and we have developed a friendship that has grown ever since, so I know him fairly well and feel qualified to answer your questions.
Bob’s in good health living in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. He’s been off the air for more than a year helping his wife deal with cancer – surgery, chemo. She’s come through it OK. No new cancer.
He almost went to WCBS-FM about five years ago after they let Mickey Dolenz go. Bob and the program director knew each other and talked about it but couldn’t come to an agreement. A few years ago Dick Biondi at WLS-FM tried to play matchmaker but interest on both sides petered out. Chicago is probably the only city in the States he’d go back to IF the right deal came along. His son lives there. But he loves being back in Canada and says he’ll either find something here or retire. They’ve got a daughter and grandaughter here also. I think he’d go back to AM740 and they could sure use him – in the afternoon or instead of that darn talk show. He and Gene Stevens are still friends. Bob always refers to him as a prince of a man. So maybe they’ll join up again some day. Maybe Hamilton where he was born. Apparently K-W radio doesn’t have much to offer.
In the meantime Bob’s putting out his olde disk jockey’s almanac everyday. You can Google it. It’s quite good.
