New programming coming to WRAL2

WRAL2 has carried THIS TV programming as its primary network for more than five years. The quality of the movies has been good, but unfortunately the viewership has not lived up to our expectations. We think it may have to do with the format of “all movies.” Sometimes viewers are discouraged from joining a two-hour movie if it has already started, or are not willing to commit two hours to watching TV.

Beginning on Thursday (7/30), a new network will be featured on WRAL2. Heroes & Icons is from the same people that have created the very successful network MeTV which airs on WRAZ.2. However instead of favorite sitcoms from the past, H&I will air popular one-hour dramas.

The new schedule includes Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blue and soon will have Star Trek.

I've seen Heroes & Icons while on vacation. I think it's well-programmed. I think Hill Street Blues is one of the best TV dramas ever. And NYPD Blue also holds up well. At 9am H&I runs two episodes of "Wanted Dead or Alive" with Steve McQueen, before he became a movie star. I think this show, for a black-and-white half hour Western, is also fun to watch. McQueen is very good and the story lines range from serious to light-hearted.

The one negative about losing "This-TV" is losing Sea Hunt and Highway Patrol in the early morning on weekdays, and The Addams Family on weekends. This-TV runs these shows around 4 or 5am, but I record one once in a while. As the write-up above says, This-TV is mostly about movies. But these three half-hour shows also air on the schedule.
