New programming on channel 44

TV Inspiracion didn't last long. Tonight, channel 44 is showing programming from Multimedios, a Spanish-language network with several affiliates in Texas and in Las Vegas.

Doesn't look like it's live. At 11:30 PM, the time and temperature bug shows 12:00 (don't know if noon or midnight) and a temperature of 33 degrees Celsius. That's about 92 Fahrenheit - not in November, even with our recent warm weather.

While I'm always a fan of Christian programming, this is a good change just for the production values. TV Inspiracion was amateurish with horrible sound distortion. Of course, now we have to put up with the kind of silly programming that gave Horatio Sanz so much material to work with on SNL. :D

-------------

Update: at midnight, the station ended its Multimedios programming and began showing a concert video from Christian Spanish/English praise group Salvador, which is TV Inspiracion programming. Guess they're splitting affiliations - I'll have to figure out when they're programming what.

It's out of Monterrey: http://www.multimedios.tv/interior/cobertura.aspx . Note that the page only claims US affiliates in California and Texas, if the Phoenix operation is permanent they haven't updated the page yet.

- The website says tomorrow's predicted high in Monterrey is 27C so I don't think a recent temperature of 33C is completely out of the question. (though it does seem a bit high)
- I believe their Monterrey station is the first Mexican digital station to provide regular service to Mexicans. (as opposed to XETV-DT in Tijuana whose intended audience is in the US, and a technical test station operated a few years ago in Mexico City)

I had to be up late last night and had the TV on ch 44 just for background. Things got weirder after that. They ran TV Inspiracion material until 2:10 AM, then suddenly there appeared a graphic of a glass of beer being filled and an announcement that some brand of beer was sponsoring the next program. Next came the Televisa logo and a documentary program about film, which lasted 45 min. The beer graphic appeared again at about 2:55 AM, then back to TV Inspiracion programming. The juxtaposition of Christian programming with beer couldn't be any more bizarre. (Actually, they could have been advertising the sex instructional DVDs like KEJR ch 43 was doing just before 11:30 - that would have been more bizarre. Bela calls their station family entertainment - I guess that would be the Hefner family. :D)

Now I'm not sure if KPHE is actually affiliated with anyone, or is just running an independent hodgepodge of programming - some sacred, some secular.
