New programming on KFAY AM.....

D

It looks like their are some changes at KFAY at night.

"The O'Reilly Factor" is now heard during the 8pm hour, (this is interesting because that is when Phil Valentine is on), and listeners can now hear O'Reilly AND the news running together at 9pm....

It also looks like that KFAY is now signing of at about 10:15 pm....

Of course, I am just being sarcastic, but WOW, what an error...

Did anybody else catch this?????......how long was KFAY stuck at dead air?????

<<<"how long was KFAY stuck at dead air?">>>

Since Cumulus took over...if not before. This station is among the worst-engineered stations I've ever seen. It would go off the air when the wind blew. Probably still does. The "engineer" was clueless. Corporate support was non-existent. The computers were the worst and only operated semi-properly when you put a breeze-box fan inside the equipment rack.

Chuck Barrett and Doug Rye both got tired of the REPEATED failures of the equipment, leading them both to seek other options for flagshipping their respective shows. In typical Cumulus fashion, they did nothing. My guess is they've still done nothing.

The really sad part is that there IS an audience for that type of programming...when they're on the air with it.

Is there ANYBODY at Cumulus at night now????????

Is KMCK voice-tracked after 7pm????....(Usually the night jock at KMCK would take care of the KFAY problems....)

Having a body over there would help....

Diz - The last time I lived Fayetteville KMCK was live at night but it's been a few years ago. They had a live morning show at that time too. I listened for a bit last night and it appears it's a syndicated show called "The Billy Bush Show." It sounds like local programming with him just produced into their playlist.

If KMCK is not live at night my bet would be no one else there is either and the building is empty by 7pm.

The FCC requires KFAY either be staffed 24/7 or have ATC equipment in place and operating. Unlike FM's and non-directional AM's, a directional AM station can't run unattended without the transmitter being fully automated. I understand the Cumulus/Fayetteville cluster was staffed 24/7 prior to the massive cuts at Cumulus that happened about 3 months ago. The Power 105.7 website still shows someone there from 11 PM to 6 AM, and they're likely to at least have a trained monkey in the building from 7-11 if the overnights on Power haven't gone voicetracked.

The last time I went by the KFAY transmitter site, it was all grown up, the equipment and towers were in disrepair. Not exactly the type of set-up you would expect at the news/talk shop of a growing area like NW Arkansas. And although I couldn't prove it, it seemed liked the station wasn't operating at full power either. Then again, Cumulus has never been about keeping up their properties.

You got that right.

Never saw them spend a nickle the whole time I was there...and that was when they were cooking the books and had the stock over $50 a share.

Fix it?

Forget it.
