New Q101

If Mancow were to go to WCKG, then I'd venture on seeing a new (possibly refreshing) morning show with the only fools that can replace him.

"The Freak and Turd show with a Bikini Bimbo!"

That'd be fun. Not that I'd listen. But it could work.

Q101 would only format flip if they bought The Zone. Therefore, Q101 would stay what they are, and they would flip the Zone.
===========Format flip choices:

*Hip Hop without R&B or minimal R&B (They'd take #s from Power guaranteed)
*Pure Dance (we know it works in Chicago)
*Dance/Trance/Industrial mix(remember Sonic Boom on Q101, they've always hinted at the format)
*Dance with Gold and Party Hip Hop (like Orlando, FL had)
*Oldies (mainstay format that could cross-sell with the Loop, but seems like the Drive is picking up the slack well.)

Q101 vs WZZN, do they REALLY compete against each other?

I think this is the fallout of tweaking and playing format twist of the month without changing calls, positioner & regime. People have no clue what ZZN is or are targetting. "Perception is Reality"

ZZN is directly 18-34 Males
Q101 is targeting 25-54 Females

Mancow is the only exception as his numbers focus on males. Emmis has built the station as an afterthought because Mancow is carrying it.

And the ABC to Emmis or Entercom .... scenario is still just speculation and by the time it shook down to an LMA, the landscape would have changed already drastically. Stern---- being the biggest earliest factor alone.

We don't know that the Drive is picking it up, we need to see some full numbers to back it up. And the Drive will appeal to males not females. Key issue and crucial to how much DRV will benefit from it.
______________

You are KIDDING, right? Please tell me you are kidding!

Q101 targeting females 25-54...are you talking about a different market?

Have you looked that their most recent book?

Q101's median age is 28. They are top 10 M 18-34. They have more than double the share in M18-34 than W18-34.

They also reach 3 times as many M25-54 than W25-54.

And as for competing against each other, on the day the book rolled, The Zone sent out e-mails and faxes saying the reason they had a down book was because of sampling of Q101's "Shuffle" programming.

Re: Q101 vs WZZN, do they REALLY compete against each other?

And you if believe that a majority that listen to Active Rock staples and the Retro artists on Q, like both, and more importantly have the research to back it up, is the day pigs fly.

Q is right in WTMX's back yard breaking down the gate.

Alot of those 18-34 males are Mancow numbers and people leaving the radio on after he is off (exactly what Emmis hopes to happen).

Also ZZN needs to look at WLUP closely as Emmis owns them now.

Look at those numbers closely again and look at the ZIP Codes as the diaries vary. There is more than what you are seeing there.
______________

Somebody should be listening to this guy because he`s one of
the few here who knows what he`s talking about. Z is right on
target that Q101 is now inheriting some of that female demo
increasingly turned off by WTMX`s redundancy. That`s also the
reason why WKQX is giving Mancow his walking papers so as to
further dilute that male dominated demographic. It`s a fact
that the best selling age groups are heavily populated by
younger females and that`s who the new Q101 is targeting in
spades. That`s how, if their scenario plays out, Emmis is
imagining its` Chicago cluster will work with females
gravitating to WKQX and the older male/female audience
attracted to the "new" WLUP featuring Johnny B. in the
morning.

Re: Q101 vs WZZN, do they REALLY compete against each other?

I think I discussed this about three months ago. They're going to be knocking on the Mix's door with the format shuffle. It's a no brainer.

Re: Q101 vs WZZN, do they REALLY compete against each other?

You're almost right, You'd have to have no brain to think that Q101 will ever target W25-54.

Maybe, start to be more balanced in AQH Comp. Maybe, become a 55% male, 45% female station. Maybe shift the Median age up to 30.

But, never, A W25-54 station!

I haven't had much of a chance to take a quick listen to Q101, but I'm wondering if Q101 might be going back to Hot AC somewhere down the line if they're trying to go for a female audience. If that's the case, could we see another Lite go out like what happened in Milwaukee?

No chance in the near or even distant future.

WLIT will keep modifying their approach to keep an audience. They have the heritage and perceived image of what they are, and will run with it.
______________

I would hope you're right on that one. I thought a heritage AC station in Milwaukee would be around, but that wasn't the case. I know Milwaukee & Chicago are different markets, but you never know what could play out. As for Q101, it's starting to slowly sound like what WTMX sounded like before WTMX started sounding like a regular Hot AC station.

Re: Q101 vs WZZN, do they REALLY compete against each other?

Hey Dave,

Diff between LITE Brew City and LITE Windy City, the 1st one did not make money it was supposed to be making being an AC, the 2nd one makes money.

At this time, CC has a good grip over the LITE here so it is not going anywhere.
______________

At least for now. We'll see how things play out, especially if Q101 is going the modern ac route and WTMX going regular Hot AC. I know Chicago doesn't generate high ratings for Hot AC in Chicago like it does in Milwaukee, But the best thing for WLIT to do is either change the format to Hot AC, or adjust the playlist so they don't end up like Milwaukee's Light 97.3 did, sounding hot and ratings drop. For now Love FM doesn't look to have an effect on WLIT either. At least Love FM sound like an AC station, though in a rhythmic format.
