Currently airing highlights of the News Monster's coverage of the Rodney King riots. In a few days, News Monster highlights of the Wayne Williams guilty verdicts.

Thanks for sharing this archive of history from WGST. This site is going to dig up some intense memories. The "Once Upon a Time" post references the barbaric killing of Teresa Carol Allen, a very young and innocent freshman college student from Cochran who was robbed, kidnapped, raped and left for dead on Sunday night December 12, 1976. Her body was found two days later at a Christmas tree farm in Smarr in south Monroe county. Her 18th birthday would have been Christmas Eve of that year. It took the government eight years to serve justice to Roosevelt Green. To my knowledge, the other scum who was in on the crime, Carzell Moore, is still alive and still filing appeals. Another fine example of our government at work.

Your memory is excellent. Green escaped not long after his arrest and was hiding in Brooklyn, New York when the law finally caught up with him.
He blamed Moore for everything, saying it was Moore who planned the robbery, kidnapping, assault and murder and it was Moore who pulled the trigger.
He refused to take responsibility for participating in this horrible crime. When he was finally returned to Monroe County for trial, he was not the least bit
remorseful. Just before the death penalty phase was to begin, he jumped out of his seat screaming "don't kill me, don't kill me." The judge threatened to
have him removed from the courtroom if he did not calm down. On the night of his execution, he pulled out the race card. Inviting his mother to watch
him die was the coup de grace.

The Wayne Williams murder trial verdicts highlight was posted early this morning 18 April. Good pictures too. Special thanks to Boyd Lewis another big foot print in Atlanta radio and photo journalism.

Fox Five's Dale Russell is open for questions/comments about his role in covering Atlanta's Missing and Murdered while working at the News Monster. This put Dale and some other guys on the career fast track and in Dale's case it was well deserved. Access his blog site at My Fox 5 to make comments and ask questions. You'll find the direct link on the second page along with the sound bank. Ask him about his relationship with Fulton County D. A. Lewis Slaton, the best the county's ever had in modern times. Lewis was very wary of the media(and for good reason) and always held his cards close to his vest. But he liked Dale and that's the mark of a great reporter!

The Rodney King riot highlights a la Atlanta version will remain for a few more days before it goes away.

Coming attraction: An appreciation for a special Atlantan we should have been listening to when he was trying to advise us but we just weren't listening.

<http://atlantasidestreets.com> is a free, non-commercial, community-oriented site. It's part of a bigger project to collect and preserve broadcast audio most of it from and about Atlanta.
