Uhh...hasn't KKND/New Orleans been doing this for a while now? "Rockin Country 106.7"

The format is not new. If you search the Indiana board for 'crock', you'll find these two topics, where the history Country and Rock together on one station is discussed -- it isn't a bright history.

92.7 and 97.7 Update
The Crock, Terre Haute

The second topic is probably more appropriate for this topic. Note the billboard article where their PD claims it too is first of its kind, and billboard states otherwise.

But anyway, to my knowledge there are now 3 stations with this format on the air in the USA, and several which did it in the past to less than stellar responce.

Crock seems to be having a decent time of it, though. Of course, there is only one classic rocker (class A signal) and two 50kw country outlets (one is satelite WW1 24/7 I think) in Terre Haute, so the Crock is a viable format "hole" there. (Even though it is a 6kw rimshot, the signal is good to very good in Terre Haute proper).

It seems to work well for the 34-54 men I speak to on occasion.

...as was a station in Nashville when I vacationed there in 97..."Cadillac Ranch" by Springsteen, followed by Garth Brooks.....Most anything by Bob Seger....

Whitefolks music is merging, lol...

At least it won't be noise like Rap and Hip-Hop.....

If that's "whitefolks music"...I'm changing races. Somebody call FX network.

No, I suspect it'll be a much better quality of noise,
not glorifying drugs, crime, and hoes quite as much.

It's almost a natural progression... an alternative to what's become of today's pop music with its heavy urban/hip-hop influence.

I always thought many rock songs over the years had a definite country flavor: "Jackie Brown" John Mellencamp, "After The Glitter Fades" Stevie Nicks, "I'm On Fire" Bruce Springsteen, "Heard It In A Love Song" Marshall Tucker Band, "Against The Wind" Bob Seger. The '70s pop hits "My Maria" and "We Just Disagree" had country covers in the '90s. And just a couple years ago, Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow were getting played on country radio.

Ahem.... I wasn't the one who said "At least
it won't be noise like Rap and Hip-Hop" or
even "Whitefolks music is merging"... I
just tried to clarify!

So... ROTFL!

I mostly stopped listening to C/W 30 years ago
because it was getting too much like pop/rock.
The Eagles, for example. Some of that stuff
really sucked.

So I think this new format would appeal to
me even less than Jack!!!

Country Jack

Actually, the "Hank FM" (country version of Jack) in Indianapolis is doing quite well.

Country music has glorified excessive drinking, infidelity, assault, and told 'stories' of loose women. But done with 'better' class and quality doing so, right?

Save your potshotting for the fights at the Honkytonk Bar Association, please. <P ID="signature">______________

Heck, yeah..this is not new..just branded..some may call it 'southern rock'...and it works..hopefully it'll be well executed where it is played out in larger markets.

Format=Not new. 99.3 WDMP in Dodgeville, WI did it for awhile. I think they're still doing it at least to some degree. www.d99point3.com
Name=I was going to call my part 15 station that 2 years ago with the same format idea because there's a bar on every corner in this city. Funny to see that someone actually put it on a real station.

Many years ago there was Rockin' Country 107.7 outside Washington, D.C., also there is a station in Fredericksburg, Virginia area doing that format now for several years.

Now that you mention it, maybe slightly. Not much.
(The performers with class are long forgotten.)
C/W is more tasteful and uses slightly better grammar.

Even pop stations occasionally play the Beatles.
But the last time our local country station played
Johnny Cash may have been the day he died. Unless
the movie has prompted a brief return to the playlist.

But I really meant there is less of it (drinking,
infidelity, assault, and loose women) as a
percentage of all songs of the genre.

Potshotting? Honkytonk Laywers?

I'm appalled that this followup is necessary, but
allow me to remind all the bozos who don't understand
the significance of the greater than character
in the left column that I didn't say "Whitefolks
music is merging."

There appears to be nothing new under the sun. When I lived in Dallas in the 80s we had KAFM, known as KFM, playing Progressive Country. Sounds very much like this "newly created" format. I guess "newly created" means "I don't remember that someone else did it."
