Yesterday, a brandnew radiostation came on air on the old frequencies of RTL FM (which was an AC format station). 100%NL is the new station, which plays alot of Dutch Urban music.
A little inside story, a couple of years ago, the Dutch gouverment held an auction, to sell frequencies packages to several stations. Some packages had some rules attached and in the case of RTL FM/100%NL, the rule was that the station who would play the most Dutch music, would get the package. So, instead of bidding the highest amount of money, the Dutch music rule was more powerfull.
RTL FM wanted to play 35% dutch music and bid 23 million Euro's
100%NL wanted to play 70% dutch music and bid 8000 Euro's
You can see the difference but the Dutch gouverment took the 23 million Euro's and broke their own play the most Dutch music rule. 100%NL took it to court and won. So, RTL FM, after broadcasting for 3 years signed off the air and 100%NL took over.
For people who are interested, www.100p.nl is the website of 100%NL, which is under construction right now, but they do have a webstream available.
And that's the latest news from The Netherlands, Im Mark and till next time...
