New Radio Station WNZF 1550 Am

Just under 9000 watts at 1550 Am we have another news talk format and sounds like WOKV. And they simulcast on 106.3 Fm too. I guess everything repeats itself these days, because listeners want to hear the golden tones of Sean Hannity, crisp and clear on fm too. I mean what’s next Sean Hannity in HD? Oh god forget I even said that please. Radio gods we don’t need Sean Hannity HD.

I believe that's near Daytona? if the signal isn't directional, I'll have to try to pull it here during the daytime.

It arrghs me to see stations flip to a "nighttime pattern".. thank you, FCC I hope this intl agreement will expire soon!

"this is WFTW 1260 now operating with 5,000 watts 24/7" .. i can only dream!

Tibbs...US98 closed between Destin and FWB yesterday....and I think they were going to have to do it again today at high tide...I would hate to be in Galveston right now

I agree cc. Every time I hear or think the name of that city the Glen Campbell song starts playing in my head...

I can't think of any local stations in the 1500's. Besides a few I-10 construction stations, the dial's pretty clear between 1490 in Milton and 1620 in Pensacola. I think a 1550 from Tampa Bay or New Orleans comes in here some days, but I can't remember much about it. Anyway, reception of Atlantic coast stations is very difficult here. I pick up Jacksonville less than once a year.

Also, since Fort Walton is lucky enough to have a 100kw FM sports station (is it still the only one?), what would they do with a second sports station on AM?

yes and from what i heard, it will be sold in a few years.
WTKE.
(licensed to HOLT)

We have a lot of directionals here.

with the exception of am 1400 (WTKE)
There's ESPN radio out of Niceville (believed to be daytime only) and a few other 1KW stations
One of them used to be Bayu (SP?) radio, too :(

FWB - Niceville AM

Is there more than one AM in Niceville?

I worked at WFSH-AM (1360 I think) twenty-five years ago, and it was the longest year of my life.

it was my first FT job in radio, in a very small southern town.

It was a real education in the south, living on $600 a month, locals vs. Air Force, not to mention
small town radio at it's worst (a very poor technical facility, bad management, bad "block" programming)

Google is a wonderful thing. 30 seconds of intense internet research tells us that The Mighty 1550 (& 106.3) is in lovely, picturesque and historic Bunnell, Florida--suburban Palm Coast, if you will. Their website proclaims three fun-filled, fact-packed and entertaining hours of live & local broadcasting each and every weekday. That's three (3).

8700 watts on 1550 kHz is like a killowatt on 1230 kHz, so it should cover most of Flagler County pretty well. Not sure exactly where 106.3 fits in, but I'm guessing it's one of them there newfangled FM translators intended to complement daytime-only AM sticks. FWIW, radio-locator.com lists neither one yet.

One of the morning guys got canned because of a previous DUI, formerly from New Orleans
The 106.3 FM will be like 10 watts at around a 900 foot tower owned by Renda
All in all a 1 out of 10 rating

WFSH licensed to Niceville operates on 1340khz with 1kw-unlimited. The Destin station is 1120 and operates with 1kw-Daytime only. Both stations were owned by the same entity for a short period, but have recently been sold off seperately. Most recently, AM 1120 was, and may still be, a Fox Rado affiliate with a News-Talk format, while AM 1340 was programming ESPN Sports.

1340 is actually licensed to Valparaiso - Niceville.

THe stations share a tower, or at least they used to.. and the 1120 signal was horrible as a result, because the tower wasnt very efficent for 1120.
