What if CBS changed 107.5 which is doing worse than 105.3. The new format might work there. CBS adding an Active Rock statin won't work because The Eagle is not setting the woods on fire. Just a thought.

There was nothing wrong with the old format. KLUV is laughing all the way to the bank with many of the same songs they were playing. I'd guess the sales staff was clueless about how to sell it, and corporate had no clue, either, on how to market it. 80s is still mostly uncharted territory, but owners are going to miss out on that coveted demo when those 80s fans age beyond 44+ soon. Me, I'd say it's worth some time and energy to figure out exactly how it needs to be marketed, instead of throwing in the towel and blaming it on "fickle" listeners. Aimless and rudder-less Jack-FM will eventually be written off the same way.

The new format is of great interest to me, but it will never be a ratings champ...which means, give it a year and they'll dump out of it.

Expecting word of mouth to work, and to have the listener seek you out and find YOU is such a cost-effective marketing plan...that nets next to nothing.

Realize, too, that this station is at the tail end of the dial (former position for "The Buzz," who's improved ratings dramatically after the frequency swap 10 years ago from 107.5 to 94.5) and will continue to suffer the same stigma. You'd think that would have ended when digital-display radios came out. It's the same point-the-finger-of-blame that's plagued local KNOK, KDLZ, KMEZ, KCDU and KOAI, and does the same for KMVK today. (Years of lowly 27kW didn't help things, either...but that's not the case anymore.)

FYI, this is a Cocks-owned station.
 
I lived in Houston when 106.9 became "the point" back in 99 or 2000. It was an all 80's station although every other song seemed to be by Huey Lewis, and no new wave to speak of. Cool concept but poor execution.

I have been pitching the idea for a 'classic alternative' station for a while. This might not be it but sounds better than the commercial stations we have in DFW now. Still think this format would be a big money maker appealing to Gen Xers who are now in their 40s.

I looks like they are moving in a bit of a different direction. I like it. The were a little too obscure before. They needed to strike a balance.
