New radio stations (HD) 2008-2009 predictions after ending this decade

So we like to end by next year 2009 to finish the decade for the last 10 years, so here's the list of new radio stations along with HD Radio by which station must go replace format first after 2008-2009:

WXRK 92.3 K-Rock Latino on HD2
WPAT Clásica 93.1 on HD2
WQXR 96.3 Classical changes to the return of Jack FM format on HD1 along with José: Toca lo que quiere on HD2 and Classical is on WNYC 93.9 HD2
WSKQ 97.9 La Mega Clásicos on HD2
WCAA 105.9 La Kalle revert back to Latino Mix since it was left in May 28, 2005 by playing latino mix music of '90 to today in Pop, Rock, Tropical and Urban on HD1 and La Kalle will play all salsa on HD2
or WBLS 107.5 Classic Soul on HD2

I doubt QXR will ever change format. The NY Times said they would never sell the station. They are committed to the Classical format. Besides, I don't think the Jack Format does well with the PPM. Time will tell.

Actually, I think you can get away with adding a 3rd rhythmic station on the radio dial.

In this case, since musically you have 'KTU covering the "soccer mom" audience and Pulse 87 covering the "outer borough", I would like to see an attempt on HD-2 for a new rhythmic station covering the house (soulful)/lounge/progressive underground dance music scene. It would be interesting with live mix shows from clubs such as Cielo (Little West 12th) or small lounge places in the East Village...get world class club DJ's such as Francois K., Judge Jules, Paul Van Dyk, Tiesto, etc. to provide mixshows.

A station like this would not affect 'KTU or Pulse in any way since this type of station would go after an entirely different demographic....hipsters, sophisticates, African-Americans, Asians, GLBT, Latinos into this scene. Only problem is that a lot of these artists, unless you are a core fan/clubber, you've never heard of. Then again, the argument can be that when disco came out...no one knew those artists as well.

I honestly don't see this sort of station happening, but it would be interesting if someone took the chance to try this and knew the music and the scene intimately.

I guess maybe CBS-FM will play a lot 90's music like Celine Dion, Gloria Estafan, Michael Bolton, MC Hammer, Blues Traveler, Green Day, Crash Test Dummies as well as music from the late 90's like Britney Spears and Christina Aguliera. Yep! Maybe someday, CBS-FM will play "Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears and "Genie In a Bottle" by Christina Aguliera. those are my two favorite songs that I loved so much, play it on CBS-FM.

The NYT is losing money for the first time. Give the newspaper business another few years and they will be selling naming rights to the building and spinning the radio station off at the first good offer.

I don't know. The next generation is quicker on the nostalgia path. When something less than 10 years ago can be classified as "old school", it makes you wonder what music tests will look like in 5-6 years

Or maybe CBS-FM will dropped its "Greatest Hits" station and they should simulcasting WCBS-AM 880 on 101.1, just like the one in Seattle where formerly KSBG pulled the plug on oldies to plug in a simulcast of KIRO 710 AM on 97.3 FM. I hope NYC will simulcast WCBS-AM Newsradio 880 on 101.1 someday.

In one of the other threads you said you wish that CBS-FM will play 90s music from the likes of Enigma more often. So which will it be?

It would be very silly to put 880 on FM....880 has one of the best AM signals in the market and is solid just about everywhere. Putting it on FM would be a waste of a signal (and just imagine the outcry from the CBS-FM fans/groupies once more!)
