New Religious Network on COMCAST

Sonlife Broadcasting Network a division of the Jimmy Swaggart Ministries has replaced The Liquidation Auction Channel on Leased Access Channel 90 on Comcast in Bristol, Connecticut. Although I didn't watch The Liquidation Auction Channel, it's much better than "SBN". They'll carry this garbage, but not something somewhat intelligent such as WGN America.

It's leased access, meaning that anyone with the bucks can put anything they want on that channel. Apparently, Liquidation's contract either ran out or not willing to renew, so they gave the channel to the next network on the waiting list.

If you didn't watch the Liquidation Auction Channel, then how do you know it's better than "SBN"? Just wondering.

I'm going to do something dangerous, MarcB, and make a wild guess.

ANY religious channel would probably not met your concepts of cable-happiness.

From MY angle
, there are some religion broadcasters that I would rather have access to than Jimmy Swaggart and crew, and there are some religion broadcasters that I would consider a lot less desireable than Swaggart. I met the man (and interviewed him live, on-the-air,) about 44 years ago. He was preaching week-long revivals in small A-O-G churches and selling his album out of the trunk of his car. He has been on my radar screen ever since. He ain't the best. He ain't the worst.

I have my own religion and my own church, so I don't need it. Plus before "SBN" we already had EWTN (On Analog 17 and digital 393), TBN, The Word Network?. and Daystar, I wouldn't mind it if it was a channel like the old Worship Network that used to air over nights on the old PAX Network - Bible Verses with Music in the background. Even a channel showing Contemporary Christian Music Videos I'd like the now defunct - Z Music Channel (I think it was called) and Praise-TV which aired on The Worship Network on PAX.

Maybe they should simulcast WFME-TV out of New Jersey - you know, the station run by "Mr. Rapture" Harold Camping.

The rank-and-file American citizens have a never-ending internal tug-of-war to deal with when it comes to freedom of religious expression.

Those who have a religious faith have one tendency to proclaim The God (as viewed and defined by the one proclaiming) is the ONE TRUE GOD, the ONE TRUE EXPRSSION of God and that all other expressions are "pretenders to the throne". (We indicate that other guy over there shouldn't be heard because his beliefs are obviously wrong.)

At the same time those who have a religious faith realize that they need to band together with people that they disagree with to loudly proclaim that we want a nation where people are free to express their thinking on religion... even if that other guy over there is wrong, wrong, wrong from OUR point of view.

You and I can agree that we will both skip right past the Jimmy Swaggart channel. I don't feel any need to make a big show and announcement that I will be doing so.

But for me to suggest that "the powers that be" should deny Mr. Swaggart a place in the communications scheme is to give support to the idea that my own beliefs and the desire of my own choice of religious organization should expect to be denied a place in the communications scheme of our nation and our local communities.

What about the little lady down the street from you whose church moved to the suburbs, or got caught up in internal disputes and went out of existence. Maybe Jimmy Swaggart IS her choice.
