New Rock 100.5 Afternoon Show

The AJC's Rodney Ho just posted a blog story about a new Rock 100.5 afternoon show debuting on Monday. Citing the success of a 2-person PM drive show on sister station Q99-9, Rock 100.5 will feature PD Axel Lowe and longtime morning show cast member Steve Rickman. Lowe was quoted as saying the show will play a few less songs mixed with lots of content, interviews and phone calls. The 2 hosts have been together in the morning since the prior show was dismantled.

The station is promising "an exciting new morning show" later this month.

I know some posters here have complained about the music under Axel's direction, but personally I feel letting go former afternoon personality Jesse Kage upon Axel's arrival was a mistake. And I realize with the addition of Axel, a cut had to be made somewhere. But IMHO Jesse was perfect for the station in afternoons.

Rock 100.5 interests me. It consistently dwells at the bottom of the ratings yet Cumlulus has never given up on it. Guess it does well in the target and/or bills well.

Perhaps less music in the afternoon will help since they’ve struggled with how to do the format with all of the back and forth tweaks.

Oops. That's Q99-7.
 
Personalities seems to be the ace in the hole for radio vs. music-only streaming. And I would guess that River is doing quite well with Kaedy Kiely in the afternoons.
 
The fact Axel Lowe hasn't been fired yet is incredible. The guy brings NOTHING to the table. The ratings have been lousy ever since was appointed PD, and he is boring on-air.

100 percent agreed; it was a gigantic mistake. Mr. Kage did a great job during his time at 100.5. The harder leaning, somewhat newer classic rock mix that 100.5 featured at the time was seeing some success in the ratings. Then Cumulus decided to fire some of the people that brought 100.5 its best ratings ever, plug in Braves baseball, and bring back Axel.
