New RXP Slogan: "Rock Is Alive"

Excerpts from Matt Pinfield on the RXP website:

We play a lot of the music that K-Rock embraced, so we would appreciate your support if K-Rock was previously your preferred station...

As you already know, 101.9 RXP is also the only station in NY where the DJs actually select their own music to play...

The full manifesto:

"Rock is Alive"... "Where Rock Lives"... Can you say... lawsuit?

why a lawsuit? the website is proclaiming "Rock is Alive"...NOT "Where Rock Lives" - WHERE is the lawsuit??

"DJs select their own music." What a load.

But for a moment let's assume that they do. If...BIG IF...the DJ's on RXP were selecting their own music, why are they still employed? How could they all have such consistently bad taste?

Now let's assume that they don't pick their own tunes and the line is a bunch of PR hype (much closer to the truth). If I was a DJ there and saw this "DJs select their own music" crap, I'd be tempted to sue them for blaming the bad music mix on ME!

I can tell that the DJ's have some say in the music they play. I can hear the difference when they go to automation during the overnights - the mix seems more safe and predictable. And a lot of the time, the DJ will really hype up something they play, and it won't be something you hear every day on the station. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure this is far from being a free-form station, but it's apparent that the DJ's are allowed to throw a few things into the mix.

And as far as your comments about "consistently bad taste" go, that's just your opinion. I like about 80% of what they play, and they pleasantly surprise me at times.

Okay, "consistently bad taste" was a little harsh. Maybe I should have said that if the jocks are picking their own songs, they all seem to share the same uncanny knack for screwing up the flow by reaching for a tired classic rock track at precisely the wrong moment. It's hard to imagine a jock sitting in the studio playing Vampire Weekend, and suddenly a light bulb flashes over their head as they decide the perfect song to come next should be "Behind Blue Eyes" or something from the timeless Boston catalog.

Or said light bulb appearing before the jock plays Elton John's "Levon" after any song in the playlist...

Matt Pinfield is a good boy, he used to listen to the old WPIX FM ,when it was 'hot';
now if he'll only grow a pair(if 'they' let him)

listeners coming over from K-Rock, we are here for you." Here for who, not the rockers, maybe he meant the baby boomers? yawn. The only real rock in NY is on my Creative Zen Vision. ;D

Rock experience?
even if there were only at night
I'm still waiting on my Korn, Dio, Nonpoint, Dokken, Disturbed, Black Sabbath, Mudvayne and Anthrax.now in that order that would be my greatest rock experience IMHO

Can they just dump the classic rock, please? Stop trying to compete with Q. We've all had baby boomer-era classic rock shoved down our throats our entire lives. As great as Zeppelin is, leave that to Q.

That would be worth about a 0.1 share.
