New Sandusky Contest?

L

LassoG

Guest
at 3:30 this afternoon here is what was playing across the active. mainstream and classic sandusky wall of rock

van halen - ice cream man
rolling stones - beast of burden
zz top - legs

who was playing what?

have the program directors of these three stations even met?

do they know there are three stations in town owned but the same company?

Lasso,

You are just another one of those guys that likes to bitch about what you don't like, but won't do anything about it. It's not illegal and if you don't like it, why don't you refer to the practices performed by Clear Channel on half of the US. Did you know that most of their stations are automated out of different parts of the country than the locale of the station itself? It's amazing.....

Yes, they have met you [EDIT]. Believe it or not, it's not the schedulers/programmers that have the last word on what goes on the air. But if you really knew a ton about radio, you'd know that already.

There is always going to be some crossover music among rock stations

Competing rock stations? Sure. But three stations in the same building?

Sandusky is like an ice cream shop that offers three flavors:

1. Vanilla
2. French Vanilla
3. Vanilla with Nuts

???

Exactly. Why Sandusky has three stations competing against each other--one Rock, one Active Rock, one Classic Rock--baffles me.

Clear Channel stations are all in the same building. Their stations also compete against one another. It gives it variety so one company doesn't look like they are dominating a certain type of music with multiple stations.

You're kidding, right? You really think that KYOT competes with KNIX, and that KZZP competes with KFYI?

It's called making money.

Ford, [EDIT] Have you ever seen a quarterly ratings book? Seriously .... have you? There is not one radio station in a market that doesn't compete with another for ratings. Doesn't matter which genre. Genre is only important when you look at how a station is comparing with others of the same type of music. You could be spending $200 per class for this type of guidance over at the School for Radio & Broadcast Sciences, so retain this important information.

Coming out of nowhere, you may have been given the benefit of the doubt. But this post confirms that you do not know what you are talking about.

That's pretty funny...you pretending to lecture me about radio.

Yes, I see ratings all the time at work, though I can't recall the last time I heard it referred to it as a "quarterly ratings book." It's usually just "the book" or "the trends" or if you want to get deeper, "extraps."

We'll talk about that last word in next semester's class, mmkay?

And no, the Clear Channel stations do not compete with each other. Quite the opposite. They are deliberately complimentary. They all target different demos and are carefully positioned so that CC can sell the entire cluster as a whole. They work together.
