New Schedule for Nick-at-Nite (Again) Effective 11/26

Nick-At-Nite is once again changing its on-air schedule. This time the changes go into effect on 11/26/06.

All times are approximate due to Nick-At-Nite's bizzare practice of starting shows at odd-ball times.

Desigining Women gets bounced from the schedule except for the late night marathon one night per week.

Sunday-Thursday
9PM-10PM Full House
10PM-11PM Roseanne
11PM-12AM Fresh Prince
12AM-1AM COSBY
1AM-430AM Late Night Marathons - Fresh Prince (Sunday/Monday) Roseanne (Tuesday/Saturday), COSBY (Wednesday), Desiging Women (Thursday), and Full House (Fridays)
4:30AM Different World (Monday-Saturday) Fresh Prince (Sundays)
5AM Mad About You
530AM Murphy Brown (Monday-Friday) News Radio (Saturday/Sunday)

Friday/Saturday
Same as Sunday-Thursday (except everything is on an hour later and COSBY does not air)
10PM FULL HOUSE
11PM ROSEANNE
12AM FRESH PRINCE

My Comments: I like the fact that most nights Roseanne is gong to be on at 10PM. Most of the time I don't have anything to watch at 10PM and now I do. I also like the fact that they dumpped the 8 hour FRESH PRICE block on Sundays. Now if they'd only dump the late-nite marathons and go back to programming the network at normal times (11PM, 1130PM, 12AM, etc), rather than odd ball times (11:07, 11:42, 12:12, etc) I'd be happy.

What real changes are there? Nick at Nite NEVER gives any NEW show a chance during the early evening hours. They shove Designing Women,Mad About You,A Different World,Murphy Brown and Newsradio into the late night/early morning hours, and push Full House,Roseanne, and Fresh Prince down every one's throats. They can't give these shows a rest and put on something worthwhile for a change. I still think that The Olsens,Roseanne, and Will Smith own a chunk of Nick at Nite that they can't bring any other show into the early evening hours.

A couple of days ago I heard Valarie Harper on a radio interview, the guy asks her if she has any plans for TV. She said she did a pilot for CBS but it didn't get picked up. The interviewer asked why and she said, "The pilot tested very good for the 18-35 demographic but bombed out in the 11-18 year old demographic. She then made some jokes about how she didn't even know there was such a thing as 11 - 17 year old demographic.

It's most likely this group that Nick At Nite is trying to appeal to. Think about it, Fresh Prince, Uncle Jesse and the two girls on Roseanne. All appeal to teenaged girls

I wonder if any teenaged girls watched The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Rhoda when they were on CBS or in reruns later on. These were shows that Valerie co-starred and starred in. Valerie Harper might have the real idea about the state of TV these days in that they want the teenage demographic instead of what else appeals to older viewers with reruns of shows besides Full House,Roseanne, and Fresh Prince. There are other shows that appeal to that demographic(A Different World,Designing Women,Mad About You).

I wonder if Nick at Nite will throw Home Improvement into the dungeon of late night/early mornings whenever it shows up in 2007.

Clearly this is all about ratings and nothing more. These shows still bring in very strong ratings -- especially Roseanne (although the last 2 seasons sucked...as did the ratings). "Nick at Nite" lost is novelty years ago -- like many years ago.

Is it really THAT hard to get the rights to shows that haven't been on the air in years? How about "Blossom", especially since Joey Lawrence is fresh off of his "Dancing With the Stars" run. Or "Punky Brewster." And who says they have to be only 30-minute shows. I am sure there are a few hour-long shows that have been off the air for just as long.

I guess there is no incentive for Viacom to try to re-invent Nick at Nite from its' sister-counterpart, TVLand.

As a teenager at the time of the MTM show, it was extremely popular among teenagers (girls and boys). We used to watch it every week.

Nick at Nite used to be gold back when it first was kicking off.. When Happy Days was in the lineup etc. Even TV Land has dropped all those shows that made it unique. The replays and marathons are annoying. Its like why are they playing this again when they can be playing that?? I thought a good show was Emergency! Whats wrong with the Stooges? Thats classic TV there. I don't even see Happy Days or Laverne and Shirley in the lineup there now.
