New Seattle Morning Show

Get ready Seattle. MOVIN has a new morning show that will launch as I told you last year. Reason for the delay is that every major show in the country wanted this job, over 500 applicants. Pat Clark, a star at kIss in Milwaukee moves to Seattle and joins Atlanta's Monti who is killing in afternoons. Monti was third in the market in the last trend 25-54. This will pretty much give T-Man a run for his money and will send Kent and Alan into retirement, while Jackie and Bender were beaten by MOVIN's automation. The wait is over Seattle, the new era begins. Patience is a virtue and getting the right show paid off. Nice to see personality infused into radio. The guys at JACK could learn a lesson from the gameplan put together nine months ago in the halls of Sandusky. YAya grins to Mark Kaye for stickin with the plan, despite early concern. This is ya ya hot!!!!

This is an extremely silly post. EVERY major show in the country wanted this slot. Huh?? SO we end up with someone from Milwaukee? K and A and TMan must be extremely worried.

How many people think Mama is the Sandusky receptionist?

Mama - ya ya hot hot! Mama Mia's been back in the sauce...

She however gets an "A" in sensationalism.

Pat Clark, the night jock at Kiss? Are you serious? Kracker? He's a mediocre club jock at best.

Mama, I love most of what you writem, but you've got to be kidding me. This is the morning show that's going to strike fear into the hearts of Jackie and Bender and Kent and Allen? The only thing thay should be scared of is getting whacked with a glow stick or finding some "E" in their coffee.

This show will last one year at the MOST. Low rent talent like Monti and Kracker make me cringe.

Mama, if you're not working for Kaye, then this got lifted right off their public release page!

What a joke! Thanks for the laughs though, and there's No way this is a "national search" for quality talent-more like what we can find on the cheap....fits the Sandusky model rather well doesn't it?

No pay=no gain for long term success. Remember it's the 4 book avg, not a bunch of butt commercials and hype that quickly fades after a short period of time.

For what it's worth .... I've noticed that the trend for a job sought by every "major" talent in the country is OFTEN advertised with a "Last call" solicit .... as in
"Isn't there ANYONE in the country crazy enough to apply for this thing??? .....ANYONE?? ......PUH-LEEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZEEEEEE? ... Pays $8/hour and 4 CD's a week. Cmon .... MAJOR MARKET on your Resume? 'PLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSEEEEE APPLY?! we'll even let you drive a van or something....."

I agree with 'bootie ... we have a station receptionist who keeps leaving the cap off the rubber cement.

You know we make fun of Sandusky, but sadly though this is the future of radio. I was recently reading that a new station called "Fresh" in NYC recently hired someone for mornings. He was doing weekends in Philly and suddenly AM Drive in Market #1! Prior to his part-time gig, I believe he was doing nights in upstate NY.

And now Movin' has a guy from some medium market that will handle AM drive. That paired with a stand-up comic doing PM drive, a club dj getting his first ever on air gig doing nights, and a PD who is forced to pull an on-air shift? But when it comes down to it, Marc Kaye and his boss could care less if the ratings struggle and they aren't a major player in the Seattle Market. As long as the station is making money, the head honchos will be happy campers. And how can you not make money when you hire talent that has agreed to do the job at a fifth of the price than that of the talent out there who are more deserving of a gig in a top 15 market.

Is it possible Mamma is Marc, just havin a good ole time on this board? Wait, I forgot, I am mamma, or am I Fitz. Maybe we are all Marc or Mark. For what it is worth my guess is the honcho's at Sandusky were lookin for a morning show that fits with the music. I don't think anyone aughta be scared of this new cowboy in town, least not yet. Did anyone check to see if Mamma's post is for real? If so, who is this new guy and how did he beat out 500 great shows? Let's listen and see. In the meantime I am sure Marc or Mark is laughing all the way to the bank just like Mr. Greenberg says. Run it cheap and ya don't have to win in the ratings to win at the dollars game.

Wasn't there just a thread on this Board about how no one is hiring talent? Posters were upset that stations like JACK are all automated. Now someone in the market hires talent and everyone makes fun of the move? It is my view that talent enhances a radio station for listeners and advertisers. I am glad KQMV has decided to leave automation behind and invest in an air staff. I would think this Board would applaud the move.

Now will this new talent unseat T-Man, Kent and Alan, Ichabod, Rivers? Odds are against that, but he could find a solid audience, much like the Wolf's morning show did. While Wolf will probably never beat KMPS in the morning on a four book, they can still be a market factor and a solid second country buy. Who is to say that the KQMV show will not give T-Man a run for his money, especially if the show is music focused. Much more interesting than automation, don't you think?

I agree, Dan ... it's always better when station hires talent. I'm not sure about the others, but my "attitude" was agreeing with 'bootie on the sensational thing where every time the Culligan man shows up at Sandusky, "mama..." drops off the meds and predicts the demise of the entire market. Enough already. We get that you adore the movin' thing; but it's not really mass appeal and my own assumption is that a somewhat niche format is NOT going to cause all talent at all other stations to weep their way to unemployment. It's up to the talent's idiot managers to CAUSE exceptional talent to weep their way to unemployment over ego-based issues that are completely unrelated to the talent's attitude or performance.

Have you looked at the year to year MOVIN compared to KLSY? Have you seen what Monti has done? Did you see T-Man's last trend against MOVIN automation? Have Jackie and Bender been just a blip on the ratings radar since MOVIN launched? I'll let the new morning show speak for itself and the ya ya sisterhood that made a lot of this station happen. This is not JACK or some niche format, it is a Seattle format with real talent. Seems it is okay for boys to brag about their favorite stations, but not mamma. Why does everyone assume I work for Sandusky, can't you be a fan? As a poster pointed out, I don't even know the spelling of the GM's name. I will watch the growth of MOVIN from afar and give it a ya ya smile.

Thanks for the awesome welcome guys!

I look forward to your bitching, moaning, complaining, rumors & suggestions that automation will be better than me!

I still cant believe I beat out 500 interns from Seattle area stations for this post!

Cheers!!!

;D

i just heard a rumor that kent and alan, ichabod, jackie and bender, tman and bob rivers were all fired and pat clark will simulcast mornings on kplz, kmps, kbks, kube and kzok from his new post at movin! fisher, cbs and clear channel got together today and made it happen with the new movin talent so they can all have a share in the ratings glory to come. yea, apparently this happens now!

Actually we DO want to welcome you to Seattle!! As you already discovered, lots of WHINING and SNIPING on this board when other markets seem to be a little more focused on discussing the ISSUES in the market. Have often thought we should have one of those "Bud Light" tribute spots around here:

Here's to YOU, Mr. OVERNIGHT BOARD OPERATOR .... taking those readings and pushing Gold Bond Powder at 3:15 in the morning....

Welcome to Seattle. Great town ... lots of fun in the radio market ... and some damn nice scenary and fun folks once ya get to know us!!!

I'd like to say Welcome to Seattle as well, Pat. I was beginning to think Sandusky would never hire a morning show. The Northwest really is a wonderful place to live. The radio community here is not ALL negative neener-neeners...OK, a large portion reside here on this board...but there ARE pockets of tolerable talent.
