New Seattle Tacoma radio website

Actually, what look like directional AM arrays Mike refers to are probably the 3 TV (and some FM) towers on Capitol Hill and/or the three tower on top of Queen Anne Hill. I thought the same thing when I first moved here, and learned otherwise during the analog-TV days when I ended up living under the KING-5 tower on the side of the hill, and found my FM and over the air TV reception had a lot of distortion problems.

Okay. Thanks.

Obviuosly, I'm not an antenna expert. Besides there was a strong, cold wind blowing at the observation level on the Space Needle and I didn't spend too much time studying the towers.

I was also interested to note three TV studios located close by near the Needle. Kinda different compared to the stations here in Phoenix. They're kinda spread out in different places.

Thanks.

And a bigger question, when will these towers become irrelevant and dismantled? I'm sure they still offer some service, but could we see a Queen Anne without these towers?

Thanks.

So true, and perhaps back in the day a studio location near the antenna was important? KING, KIRO, and KOMO are all located within about a mile of the these antennas. Even KCPQ (Fox) is located nearby, but not sure where there antenna is. But it doesn't really matter anymore, but what does matter is Seattle has its own media row in a sense, and this is also important.

KCPQ is on Gold Mountain (SW of Bremerton.) Puts out an excellent signal around the sound from Bellingham to Olympia, but gets really messed up on the Eastside, which is why it simulcasts on sister station KZJO (JoeTV) on 22.2, who's tower is on Capitol Hill to compensate for their main signal's Eastside problem.

(Wish they would simulcast JoeTV's signal on 13.3 for the rest of the North/South sound areas where KZJO's Capitol Hill signal doesn't reach likewise.)

Queen Anne Hill was also the former site of the original KIRO-FM (now KKWF 100.7) and KING-FM.
