New Set for Channel 2?

Channel 2's news anchors were anchoring from the newsroom and/or the Satellite News Center today. Sounds like a new set is in the works.

I thought so too, but as of the 6PM news on Sunday, they're back in the studio.

And it actually looks like the studio, not like a desk in front of a Chromakey like XIA did years ago when they changed their set.

Maybe they were just doing some technical type upgrades?

Doubt it's a new weather center since they just redid that kind of recently.

The set is the same, however the picture looks sharper.

I think they may be getting ready for HD news. WSB-TV will begin doing a high-school/college football show in HD starting Saturday.

In light of WXIA's HD upgrade, I suspect they may not want to make an announcement, and just suprise everyone with HD news. Before Greg Stone left, he refused to comment to the AJC when WXIA started their HD news due to "competive reasons". In other words, they don't want to make an announcement, and then wait four months while they made upgrades to start. Whenever they make the announcement, they want to be ready to go within a matter of weeks.

The set looks a little different, but there definitely was a big change with the lighting. Pam Martin looked awful, while Carol looked fine.

Re: WSB News on temporary set?

It looks like this is a temporary set. They are not panning to the weather center, and they are tossing directly over to the chroma key and back for weather segments.

The set looks like the background is a chroma key, with the desk and the part behind the sports anchor being real (and you can tell it is meant for temporary use.

Again, I smell HD upgrade. They probably will not make any announcement until a few weeks before they are ready to start, and then they will promote the hell out of it.

The saga continues...

On Tuesday's 5PM news, David Chandley was hanging out in front of a plasma screen monitor off in what appeared to be just the corner of the newsroom. You could see a hat rack behind him.

I am glad to hear that WSB might get a new newsroom set. How about a new logo and some new graphics? I am from Atlanta, but I now live in Seattle, where KIRO-7-CBS is a clone of WSB. They are both owned by COX if you didn't know. In my opinion, KOMO-4-ABC and KING-5-NBC have better logos and graphics. Personnel wise, I think that all 3 stations in Seattle are decent. I know that KING-5 is the undisputed market leader here and I think that KOMO-4 is generally in 2nd place. That leaves KIRO-7 in third. It's time for an updated look.
