New shifts on 3WS?

I hadn't listened in a while, so I just noticed this. It may or may not be new. Sheri Van Dyke is working 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Mike Frazer is 4 to 10 p.m. Two people covering 11 hours. Are they voice tracking any of that?

I think the new shifts on 3WS started last Monday. Does anyone know if Dave Mason will be on from 10-midnight or is it automated now from 10pm-5am?

I would hope so. I can't think of AFTRA allowing a 7-hour on-air daily shift in real time.

Delurking again.

For better or for worse, 3WS isn't the station it once was. For me it's worse: I've gone from being a P1 3WS listener to barely turning it on. If I really want to listen to Smooth Operator by Sade, I'll put on WSHH.

The new, longer airshifts are lamentable. But, really, that surprises me about as much as Ryan Mill landing the B-94 PD job.

Good to see you resurface Clarke! Kinda like the groundhog! ;D I think you are right about 3WS not being the station that it used to be. Although, if I wanted to hear Sade, I'd tune into WLTJ, I think they are way better than WISH. WISH is VERY boring.

[EDIT]

[EDIT-inflammatory]

LTJ better then WISH? Maybe if you like a playlist that is all over the place with non-familiar items. The wife listens to LTJ from time to time and she changes the dial alot due to the stuff she hears and does not recognize. She has listened to WISH lately and every time I've been in her car I've noticed how they have stepped up their playlist. I don't think they've played Sade in a long time now which is a good thing, that and the imaging person they went to.

Kudos to the moderator who edited out a part of my post.

Bravo!

I would hope we don't see any personal attacks on people in the future.

Who is the imaging person WLTH went to PGHsalessguy?

I'm confused, do you not like their imaging?

I think imaging overall stinks all over the Pgh market.

IDK what station it is but I landed upon 95.3 a while back and found that their playlist is the 3WS of the 90s. Im a big fan of that genre of music and grew up listening to it, so when I start to hear 80s on WWSW I try to switch it over to 95.3 for a while.

That's WJPA in Washington. They've been playing oldies since 1992. You'll see them blip in the Pittsburgh Arbitrons every once in a while.

That explains why my old buddy Mike Frazer hasn't returned my calls when I found his # after all these years....he's slammed at work and doesn't have the time to have a life. Perhaps they should think about work/life/balance!
If anyone sees my friend Mike, tell him Suzy Waud says 'HI' and I would love to re-connect. We worked together at WNRJ Energy 105 back in 1989...crazy times, ahhhh what memories! Mike sequed over to 3WS...he was the one who landed on his feet in town.

Rock on,
Suzy Waud

Stereo-Quad Suzy Waud! Nice to hear from you! Didn't know if you were aware, but Rockin' Rich Anton is at WUZZ up in Meadville, where he's been PD for quite a few years. I interviewed to be ND at their cluster in the winter of '06, but got the gig in Butler instead. But I did meet him, very nice guy. I ran WKPA for a couple years after they pulled the plug on Energy 105. A lot has happened since then.

What's keeping you busy these days? I hear all kinds of rumors...you were running a club, you opened a Subway franchise, you were back on the air, bring us up to date!

Pure Energy...Pure Energy...Pure Energy...etc.

It's so great to hear from you Suzy Waud (The Quad Waud:). Hope all is well with you. I was a big fan of yours on Energy 105, and I was sorry to see the station only lasting 10 months. In my opinion, I thought Energy 105 had huge potential back in the day:).

It went before its time, Todd. Fortunately, Signature Broadcasting saw that and inserted "Jamz" between "Mix" and "100.7", and that station went on to great success, picking up where NRJ left off.

Very good point Ken. I was glad to see when Pittsburgh went with Mix Jamz. Who could ever forget Tony Q Foxx and DC Taylor? They had to be the most energetic DJ's at that time. I wonder if those two are still in radio today? I know we have an older population now in Pittsburgh, but could a high energy dance format ever work again in the Burgh?

I think it could. The only reason why Mix Jamz finally fell by the wayside was because Tex Myer wanted to eliminate his competition against B94. It was still doing well ratingswise, and I thought Rich Hawkins was doing a good job.

The question is, is there enough music out there that's NOT hardcore rap and current enough to sustain it?

WAMO= Straight up urban
KISS= Urban leaning CHR
B94= Pop CHR/Hot AC in the daytime hours

The young demo isn't that large in this market, how thin are you going to slice that pie?
