New shows coming into your market in Sept. 2014

I don't think The Middle is doing that well. Last year after a few months in an early evening time slot Channel 50 in DC moved it to an overnight time slot. It's too bad their sister station in Hartford didn't do the same. It's a dumb, boring, and uninteresting show.

The same thing happened here in L.A.; KTLA bounced the show between early evenings (5:30pm after Family Guy) and late nights (usually after Friends).

This is what's new for first run syndication in Chicago, & not much new.

WMAQ-TV (NBC) The Meredith Vieira Show at 1pm (don't know what it replaces)

While not new, but it looks like Fox O&O WPWR-TV (MNT) picked up Who wants to be a Millionaire, & airing it at 4pm, & a repeat at 4:30pm (WGN-TV was last airing this show in the same timeslot)

With The Test now cancelled, WGN-TV is adding another hour of Maury at 3pm, in addition to the new episodes at 1pm. Also for WGN-TV, since they lost Rachel Ray to WLS-TV (they also lost Live with Kelly & Michael back in 2012, resulting another hour of morning news to fill the 9am slot), instead of expanding the news to go into 1pm, they decided to air locally produced Chicago's Best at 10am. I don't know if this is temporary, while they get a show ready for the timelot that will be produced by Tribune, & carried on Tribune stations, & syndicated via a syndicator to non-Tribune markets. Bill Cunningham would have only stayed on Tribune stations, if The CW hadn't picked up the show for national carriage.

I need to make a slight revision. I forgot to mention that with Rachel Ray now on WLS-TV (they outbidded WGN-TV for this show too), & is on at 1pm. I'm waiting to see how well that works out for them, since WBBM-TV had her program first, & dropped it, because the ratings weren't so great in the afternoon (I believe either at 1 or 4pm), while WGN-TV had her show on at 10am, until this past Monday.

I forgot to mention more on Live with Kelly & Michael. When the contract was up for WGN-TV, WLS-TV's station manager wanted Live with Kelly & Michael that bad, since he saw it as a competitor to Windy City Live, & wanted to break up that competition. He also knew that his station was the only O&O that didn't carry the show, because the station had Oprah on at 9am (the only market that didn't have Oprah on at 3 or 4pm), & the station refused to move Oprah out of the 9am timeslot for 25 years. When the show ended in May 2011, Emily Barr (the previous station manager) was interested in bringing back a local talk show that pre-dated Oprah (was called AM Chicago), & she created Windy City Live. Emily Barr was very much committed to that program, but when she left, John Idler had other ideas, which was to carry Live with Kelly & Michael on the station, & bump Windy City Live to 11am. Windy City Live for now is still on, but the ratings aren't as good at 11am as they were at 9am (they never matched Oprah's ratings at 9am though). It also meant that last season, WLS-TV dropped the 11am newscast to keep Windy City Live on, & because of it, WGN-TV saw a major jump in ratings at 11am, due to it. I believe once everyone's contracts are up on Windy City Live, I won't be surprised if the show gets cancelled. I still say that if corporate wanted Live on WLS-TV that bad, that they would have forced WLS-TV to move Oprah out of the 9am timeslot years ago, in order to have Live on at 9am. The last 2 times it was carried on WLS-TV (both times as Live with Regis & Kathie Lee in the 1990's), it wouldn't come on until at least 1am.

Now what surprises me is that WCIU/WMEU-CD is no longer a secondary affiliate for Queen Latifah. For their time-shifted U Too channel, they dropped Queen Latifah, which was on at 7pm on WMEU-CD 48.1 in HD & simulcasted on WCIU 26.2 in widescreen SD. I wonder what the reason was that her show is not on their station. They still the secondary affiliation on Dr Phil at 9am on WCIU 26.1 (originally was on The U Too in the evening hours when Oprah was still on in 2010, due to the clause in the contract that prevented Dr Phil from being on at the same time as Oprah, which was 9am in Chicago, until May 2011).

In case you havent noticed, Millionaire has a new host....(What kills me is the local station carrying it was still running the promos of Cedric being the "new" host after he left!!!) Its not as good in my opinion....and the local station moved it...from the 4-5 hour to an earlier time..which sucks IMHO...

CW quit carrying King Of the Hill and Cleveland shows as of this past Mondays and now have Cops Reloaded...ehhh I get my KOTH fill on AS anyway....so Jeopardy is now my 5pm show...(was not a fan of The Cleveland show anyway..glad to see him back on Family Guy...now if they will make THAT funny again)

Murdoch Mysteries (a new crime drama rerun show from Canada, ala Da Vinci's Inquest and The Border) goes to all CW Plus stations starting next week.
KSTW is carrying the Game Plane (the new Mark L Walberg game show in an Allegiant Airlines jet) late Sunday nights at 12:30AM. Over here, CW Plus (KIMA/KEPR-DT2) have Game Plane at noon Sundays.
