New Silversun Pickups

"Panic Switch" ..This song is doing quite well and is tearing up the charts in only a couple weeks of release, jumping from 28-18 on the MR charts this week. How many spins is your local modern rock/alternative giving to this song? I'm very excited to hear the new album as Carnavas was one of my favorite albums in the last 5 years.

Yeah, they're great. I'm really championing this song as I hope it becomes one of the more "interesting" hits (i.e. not a butt-rock song) on the Alternative chart.

LMFAO @ Alt music.... ALT means...NOT for Straight Men/Women.. Active Rock
has been dominating 92% of the music scene in every city in the U.S. Even
the Alt-Mod rock charts are filled with Active Rock songs!

Time to take off your 1994 flannel.....

Um, all the active rock bands are imitating the "flannel wearing" bands of the early 90's. Shinedown, Seether, etc.

Um wrong...early 90s was hair bands and metal....Nirvana went big in 92..yeah..same with Pearl Jam and Soundgarden..but rest didnt come along into well into 93-95.

[EDIT]

Back to the Silversun Pickups, they're doing VERY well on MR charts and I had a chance to listen to the new record and it's great, not quite up to Carnavas but definitely close. More stuff to watch: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and The Crystal Method both have new records coming out.

I was very young then so I can't say for sure, but by '92, most of the hair metal bands had become complete running punchlines (even without the influence of grunge).

Does anyone know if they'll be on Letterman or any other talk show in the near future? I can't find any info.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs will be on Letterman and Fallon next week. I find it odd that so far, there's been no mention of them appearing on any talk shows to promote Swoon.

That's how I remember it (and I was old enough to remember). "Metal" had degenerated into an endless stream of Poison wannabees by 1990 and was clearly on it's way out of favor. Formerly "Alternative" acts were topping the charts in the late 80's (R.E.M., U2, B-52's, The Cure, New Order, Love And Rockets, and Depeche Mode all had Top 10 singles by that time). Jane's Addiction (Ritual De Lo Habitual) and the Red Hot Chili Peppers (Blood Sugar Sex Magic) were huge around 1990-91, well before Nirvana broke.

RHCPs back in the 80s was basic rock, not alt, not hair, not metal... also B-52s didnt go big until 1994ish-1995.... REM and U2 were big back in the 80s ...yes....and were what you called Alternative back then, but were not a grunge type outfit... just rock that wasnt a hair band nor metal. They were called POP Rock!

Actual Grunge came in with Nirvana, Pearl Jam, SoundGarden, AIC back in 1992-1993... hair bands died out in 1993 due to everyone wanting a change in music style and direction. This lasted until Godsmack came out big in 1998 and went multi-plat...and with Disturbed in 1999....Active Rock-Hard Rock started to make a comeback (without the glam images). Now Active Rock dominates 90-95% of the Active Rock charts...and is about 33%-40% of the Modern Rock charts.

Anyways, back to the original topic, the album comes out today. It's called Swoon. Support this band and buy it, it's an amazing record! Also, while you are at it, call and request "Panic Switch" at your local alternative station! Let's get these guys to the top of the MR charts where they belong.
