Well, they said there was going to be a shift anyways....Im surprised that TWC is getting the heave-ho. I wonder who'll be the weather provider on the traffic channels??

May we safely assume the Super Shuffle is the Sirius answer to JACK-FM? If so, I hope it gives them the latitude to reduce the flood of classic hits on The Spectrum and let that station return to straight-ahead AAA. But I doubt that'll happen.

Maybe the new Coffee House channel will have more of the AAA music you're looking for???

I'm very disappointed that Remix is being deleted. There are LOTS of people angry over this one compared to the other deletions. It's the main reason why I got sirius. Anyone that knows dance music knows that this was the most popular channel in the dance category and best appeals to dance music fans. I've heard lots of people are calling SCS and writing emails to complain about this. With 5 dance channels remaining, only two of them appeal to true dance listeners. Kinda reminds me of FM radio all over again.

On another note, they did listen to us about adding a New Age channel, Spa 73. That should be really exciting. As far as the other new channels, I don't think they'll interest me. I'm getting concerned about all the religious channels being added to sirius and that are presently on...too many!

Just saw over on FMQB that in November, Sirius will provide traffic for 22 markets, anyhow, what will the 2 new ones be?

Besides NYC/LA, I would assume another duality channel (DFW/Houston) will get split in two

WHile I see what you are saying, the article mentioned that it will be 22 markets, so splitting DFW/Houston or any other 2 markets wouldn't be the answer, as it would still be 20 markets which we currently have...

Hey, back off Radio 1..its about the only decent product in its channel tier. I agree radio korea needs (and will) get the heave-ho by sometime next year.

Christian Rock is MUCH more popular than DJ sets

> I'm getting concerned about all the religious

Define "too many." There are "too many" Hip-Hop channels on Sirius in my opinion but that doesn't mean that is congruent with reality.

Christian music is measured in the BILLIONS of dollars in this country. Christian Rock is supposedly one of the fastest growing forms of music. I have a feeling Dance music sales are literally measured in the low, single millions if that. The reality is, as much as it pains me to say it, is that Dance is just not that popular. I've been waiting for the day Dance would be huge since 1996 but it never happened.

The reality of life is that there are hundreds of millions of Christians in this country and Sirius's previous lineup underserved this massive community, otherwise their research would not have shown that adding Christian Rock was a shrewd business move, and if it wasn't, XM would have gotten rid of it long ago. I have no doubt Sirius has their finger on the pulse of their subscribers and potential market much more than you or I do.

There is absolutely NO question that a Christian Rock station will have FAR more listeners and garner FAR more new subscribers than a 24/7 DJ set channel. And I am a Dance nut. I admit my biases though, and so should you.

Define "lots of people". And tell me how you got this information. Sirius does not release individual station ratings.....

I think you made up "lots of people" based on your own feelings.

Sirius Slashes Hip-Hop/R&B, Modern Dance Offerings

They reduced their Modern Dance stations from 3 to 2 by dropping Remix.

They reduced their Hip-Hop/R&B stations by 2 by dropping Slow Jamz and Wax.

Re: Decades Channels: Sirius Still Well Behind XM

XM, with a dedicated pure 90s channel and a 2000 to Today channel (Kiss XM), is destroying Sirius in this category.

I really can't believe Sirius doesn't have a pure 90s channel at this stage of the game: It's 2005!
Edited by saladdressing on 08/28/05 02:47 AM.

Why have a Pure Based 90's CHannel when there isnt even a Terrestrial Radio station on the FM Band Programming all 90's Music yet. the all 80's Fad is barely waring out now.

But can you argue that a trainwreck format of Breakbeats/Old School Rap will get as many listners as Remix?

They got rid of the WRONG channel!

Because it isn't the job of satellite radio to follow terrestrial. They are the leaders and as such they air formats you can't get over the air. Try to imagine the last time you drove into any US city and heard a commercial World Music station. That's right - it has never happened because there aren't any!

Why have a 90s channel? Because of the very reason people choose satellite radio in the first place.
Edited by saladdressing on 08/28/05 10:17 PM.

No, it's not based on my own feelings. Just read the messageboards over at siriusbackstage.com and especially check out the dance messageboard. It's flooded with outraged people.

Remix 62 is NOT being deleted in order to add a Christian Rock channel necessarily. They could've deleted Boombox 61 (which is not even dance but is in the dance category and overlaps with Backspin 43) in order to keep Remix 62. Remix is FAR MORE popular than Boombox. I do agree with you though that Christian Rock is most likely more popular than dance music, but adding this channel is not what caused Remix to get deleted.

I'm really surprised Sirius did not add this channel back to the lineup with this time around. There have been a TON of requests for it. They did however add on other types of channels, like New Age, that TONS of people wanted. Again, I think they used poor judgement in deleting Remix. Of the deletions, no other deleted channel is getting more complaints than Remix.
