New "soft" AC - Dayton, OH

WLQT in Dayton, OH recently swapped frequencies with sister station CHR WDKF, moving from the stronger 99.9 to the 94.5 signal. With that came a new, softer music mix sort of like WRRM in Cincinnati and the stations in Tampa, Miami, and Columbia, SC. This is, to my knowledge, Clear Channel's first attempt at a softer AC station.

Last 10 played:
1. Seals & Crofts - Summer Breeze
2. Manhattans - Shining Star
3. Jim Croce - Time In A Bottle
4. Elton John - I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues
5. Commodores - Three Times A Lady
6. Sarah Mclachlan - I Will Remember You
7. Stylistics - You Are Everything
8. Matthew Wilder - Break My Stride
9. Bread - Diary
10. Bette Midler - From A Distance

Until recently, this had been a regular sounding AC. Perhaps this move is to protect sister Mix 107.7, who is Hot AC and is facing more competition in the Dayton market now.

I'm glad to hear CC attempted softer AC. I hope CBS Radio would come up with softer AC leaning formats and called them Warm FM's or something rather than coming up with Hot AC leaning Fresh FM's formats.

Hopefully, WLQT stays like that and doesn't adapt premium choice.

I looked at WLQT's website and its playlist included Lynyrd Skynyrd and AC/DC along with the soft AC artists. Huh??? ???

I have no idea. Last played include Peter Cetera/Amy Grant, Ace, Lonestar, Garfunkel, Lionel Richie, Melissa Manchester, etc.

Doesn't look like they play anything past 2000. Funny, because there are still "soft" songs from the 2000s

Wow, the list on that first post looks pretty good. Nearly all those songs are on the station I listen to. Of course, I still get Sinatra, Andy Williams and Nat King Cole mixed in.

On the other hand, I don't want AC stations like this to become a habit. You've got to have the good stuff mixed in too.

Yes, especially Norah Jones and Michael Bublé... they get tons of airplay even on Adult Standards stations, so there should be no question about playing them on Soft AC.

FYI, on their web site you can scroll through what is claimed to be their entire playlist of 547 songs. However, it must be a straight dump from the automation computer's music library, not an actual copy of their current on-air playlist, because at least 1/4th of it consists of Christmas songs!

I'm sure that's a Clear Channel glitch, because I was gonna reply to the OP---CC has a station even softer than the list you mention. It doesn't stream, but you can see the last 3 songs played:

*Their* long playlist includes one from Metallica, so glitch-city.
