New software for Optimod 6300 released

Version 2 software for Optimod 6300 is now available for free download from ftp.orban.com/6300/Software. This adds a CBS Loudness Meter and support for Dolby Digital dialnorm metadata to the feature set.

Yes...the 6300 now runs the same algorithm as the 2.0 processing in the 8585. The only difference is that the 6300 has two stereo look-ahead limiters, allowing both the multiband and AGC outputs to be peak-limited simultaneously.

There are large differences between the peak limiters in the 8382 and the 6300 because the 8382 uses Orban's FM-style limiter/clipper and the 6300 uses a look-ahead limiter with pre-emphasis around it. For FM, this would not allow competitive loudness. However, analog TV typically uses much lower amounts of peak limiting. We found that we could match the loudness of the 8382's general-purpose TV presets without overt look-ahead limiter pumping in the 6300 by carefully tuning bands 4 and 5 of the 6300's multiband compressor/limiter to do appropriate pre-emphasis limiting prior to the look-ahead limiter. Our motivation for doing this was that stations who need a new audio processor for their analog transmitters would feel much more comfortable about buying a processors that could also be used without compromise for future digital transmission.

Can you also explain what type of bass clipping the 8382 uses, is that medium are soft bassclipping ?
And are the presets in de 8382 based on the MX presets of the 8300, because minimum delaytime is 20 ms.
