new sox announcer

how do you all like the new guy? I thought ok. I know he was TV but I miss Sean McDonough doing sox games.

This really isn't a question that should be asked now, because everyone is gonna say "Bring back Trupiano"

Yes, Jerry Trupiano was a mainstay and part of the Red Sox "thing" and the new guy will get flack because everyone misses Trup. No one should form an opinion until they've heard a good amount of him to make a fair judgement.

I watched some of the games on ESPN yesterday... heard Dave O'Brien... he definitely has an impressive set of pipes..

Sean McDonough was doing the Angels/Rangers game and it reminded me of how much I miss him, especially compared to the bland Don Orsillo. McDonough was working with Orel Hershiser and they were hilarious and he also called a good game.

So far, its a bit different to get used to, but they're both pretty good. How is it worked out though? Is Glen doing away games and Dave doing home games, sorta like NESN with Dale Arnold? Or is it going to be Glen the rest of the season?

BRING BACK TRUPIANO!!! ;D

Nah, the new guy's okay, I guess. He was definitely a little stiff yesterday but it's early in the season. One thing that kept standing out to me: he just sounds about 50 years younger than Joe C. I dunno if that's a good thing or a bad thing, though. ::)

I think it is a situation of some games being done by Geffner and some by O'Brien. I do like O'Brien's
more baritone, folksy voice. Geffner's is higher--sounds youthful; he may be truly knowledgable about
baseball but Glenn's voice makes you think you're listening to a minor league game...

I think it affects chemistry and not knowing from one night to the next who you're going to hear. Pick one or the other, preferably O'Brien (I know he has ESPN obligations)

something old something new, something bright, something blue. maybe two new announcers is the key.
the new guy sounds ok. why didn't they crush the ball yesterday?

I agree about the two constant announcers, there shouldn't be a rotating schedule. With Remy and the Dynamic D.O. with them working together all the type, they got the chemistry down and get make each other crack up over something stupid that cause us to stare at the TV thinking 'huh?' While they're on the floor of the broadcasting booth in hysterics, and that is fun to watch.

O'Brien is much easier to listen to than Geffner. I think he sounds good.

Tuned in to the start of Game #2 of the season on 'EEI. I expected to hear the WRKO Red Sox Radio Network, since they'll be carrying most of the games. Is it going to be the WEEI Network, even on 'RKO?

Am I overthinking this? Does anyone give a rat's backside about this? ;D

actually, I heard some of O'Brien's call and feel as though I'm listening to a national broadcast instead of a local one... it's all about feel... it's almost as though he overwhelms the broadcast...

Probably, and no. All the groupie 'inside' radio stuff means zilch to the average listener.

Yep, Trup may have been part of the 'thing' but let's face it, his trademark "a swing and a drive, waaaaay baaaaaack" on every wind blown pop-up caught 20 feet behind 2nd base really got old fast for a lot of folks. I know he was practicing his home run call for his audition tape, but this was becoming a running joke.

I think Wensdays are designated EEI days.
