New Sports Entry in the Market?

Heard 98.9 airing play by play baseball (Tampa Bay and Seattle) from Compass Media tonight.

FWIW, Lars Larson is also from Compass Media. Nosing around Salem's website I see a couple of mentions of play-by-play sports on a few of their talk stations. I doubt they're going all-sports.

Agreed. But out of town (region) baseball just seems strange. I wonder if they are being comped to carry.

I think there may have been some problems over there last night, as about 9 pm there were two programs airing at the same time. not sure what they were

Seems strange that 98.9 has been airing these games and not 95.5.

Does this mean 98.9 would be airing Compass' college and NFL football games this season?

In NYC, Salem's AM 970 The Answer serves as overflow for a number of professional and college teams, like when ESPN New York had to cover a NY Rangers hockey game and a NY Knicks basketball game. They also carry Syracuse basketball from time to time. So it wouldn't surprise me if they would clear conflicting sports matchups.

Note - I do understand the OP mentioning it wasn't particularly a local sports event...

I know Salem has done overflow in other markets not just NYC. But there is no overflow need for Compass in Columbus as I don't believe anyone else carries them.

Hypothetically speaking, a logical signal swap would be 95.5 for 98.9. That would benefit both parties involved, wouldn't you think?

Give up a 50,000 watt Class B for a 3,000 watt, signal challenged, Class A? No way.

That 50,000 watt you're referring to is actually only 21,000.
