Barry Young would be very proud of your fake studio audience clap Doc!
As far as 1580 KHEP-AM is concerned, today The Lamptimer cut off the transmitter at 6:34 P.M. Still not nearly close enough to the 6:15 P.M. sunset time, but maybe the Fanatics are just a little crazy with their inconsistent carrier dump!
I too have heard 99.1 KFXY-LPFM running desperation ads saying that "a new station in Fountain Hills is coming on the air" and is trying to run them off the dial. They go on to state how desperately needed listener help is to keep the station running and moved to a new transmitter site (if their format was not Country and still alternative or, even better, an oldies station, I would consider contributing something). My question is this: why doesn't KFXY-LPFM just try to find another dial position to run their programming on? 102.9 FM, 96.3 FM or even back to 106.7 FM wouldn't be a bad place or, if they really wanted to be bold, try 92.9 FM, 107.5 FM or 99.5 FM and jam out the Tucson stations (I know this is not a popular suggestion for listeners of Tucson stations in the East Valley, but let's face it, we are not the target audience for Tucson stations).
Both 99.1 the Fanatic's translator and KFXY-LPFM are in dire straits because if things stay the way they are, KFXY-LPFM will be unlistenable except near their transmitter. Beyond that, they will cause enough interference for those of us in the East Valley (Gilbert / Mesa in particular) to where the new Fountain Hills 99.1 FM translator won't do us much good listening to the Fanatic. Also, I don't know how a translator in Fountain Hills will even improve their signal all that much to the Southeast Valley unless it is directional toward us. I guess we will just have to wait and see!
