New Sports Station Coming To DFW

Or they were give a very special "early adopter" or "pioneer" rate. Since radio ads don't open saying, "this ad cost $xx" we don't know the conditions of the sale.
Makes sense. They did well advertising with one product. Why not try another product from the same vendor. Especially if there is a discount involved.

I can't come up with research to back it up, but from personal experience from people I know there are sports guys and non-sports guys.
I agree. In High School in the US, I was "required" (true term: "forced") to participate in team sports, including baseball, football and basketball according to the season.

A group of those of us who were terrible players and who suffered ostracism by the sports thugs and embarrassment with the opposite sex. We figured out ways to get fake medical excuses, created family emergencies, and even had each coach thinking we were on the other team. We had hide-outs and did our homework while the other guys played. We all developed a hatred for sports.

In my case, and long before it was a household term, I was dyslexic. I could not catch, throw, kick or bounce a ball of any shape. The harder I tried, the worse I did.

So today, anything to do with those sports makes me flee in the opposite direction. Yet for many years I managed the #1 radio sports show in Los Angeles because I simply followed what listeners in research told us to do.

The strange and unusual thing is that I got roped into being part of my station's soccer team that played the gangs from other stations. I somehow figured out that the goal keeper did not need to be athletic... he had to be a mathematician who calculated angles and opportunities and then simply stood in the way of the ball. We won every tournament and, of course, I like soccer! And I have a lovely implanted tooth where one of my competitors took advantage of a play to kick me squarely in the mouth!

In the same way, PDs of music stations are not required or expected to have any musical training or skills. Whenever I speak about music (either in terms of composition or performance) I always preface it by saying I'm not an actual musician.

I can't come up with research to back it up, but from personal experience from people I know there are sports guys and non-sports guys. A lot of the non-sports guys are rock fans and like Russ Martin and Howard Stern, but when a show comes on where they are quoting sports statistics, the non-sports guys tune out. On the other side I know guys who live and breathe their sports teams, memorize statistics, and when the talk changes to pop culture, they consider it mindless chit chat and tune out. Sports guys and non-sports guys can be the same age, have the same income and even do the same thing for a living, aka the same demographic, but one guy would be bored to tears by the other guys favorite show. They have different hobbies.

I can remember trying to explain to a media executive why, back in the day of United Paramount Network, that Star Trek Enterprise Fans would all tune out in unison when they followed up sci-fi with their Big Time Rasseling Show. They don't get it until it blows up in their face.
I agree; I am largely one of those non-sports guys. I watch some sports but I don't care for sports radio or analyzing stats. But they're still largely targetting the same age group of men, so its why the spots can be largely the same clients. Fundamentally KEGL is still going after 25-54 men.

I just heard their overnight show, Sports Rage. Two fast talking loud guys. A high energy show. Exactly what I don’t want to hear when I am half asleep in the middle of the night. It’s like two guys trying to sell you a car. It might be halfway interesting in the middle of the day, but at two in the morning it is downright disturbing. It makes you want to switch over to George Noory and go back to sleep.

I hope to goodness this is a sign of things to come with ihm New Orleans 😍. I’m not sure how 99.5 does against wwl in talk. But, if ihm can do 99.5 the freak or something like it, they would have a chance at wwl New Orleans Pelicans Move Back To WRNO - RadioInsight
WRNO is their market clear for Sean Hannity, Clay Travis & Buck Sexton, Glenn Beck. They're not going to flip away from conservative talk.

I saw a post from Debbie Sexxton that The Freak will still air Loud and Local. It will move to 7pm to 9 pm on Sundays. So the show will be an hour longer, too. The Freak will play some music at least.

I’m glad the local bands will get some airplay. That was my favorite time to listen to the Eagle.

Anyone else find it odd that the spot that airs for freaker’s ball on 97.1 still says buy your tickets at Kegl.com? And on the hd2 where it says to sign up for rock news at Kegl.com? Is it hard to voice a new promo?

If still playing music includes talking sports over a music bed, that’s kind of weird. Is this their attempt to be edgy?

In case you haven't noticed, this is a Sunday specialty show. As many of us know, Sunday specialty shows break the regular formats of their respective stations to varying degrees. I am simply glad that there is a show on commercial radio that highlights the works of local musicians in DFW.

Well, knock me over with a feather. They get a longer local show and it’s not at the total throwaway time slot of 11-midnight. That’s a longer local show than KXT does. Admittedly, KXT has theirs at on the more listened to Thursday night at 7 and KXT has one local tune an hour and October has extra local tunes per hour. It’s nice to hear somebody besides the non comms play any local music.

That was early this morning. Not Sunday. It was a sports show.

I think he’s talking about loud and local sticking around on 97.1. The original jock who did it will have a show from 7-9 on Sundays featuring local music. i was hoping personally that weekends/overnights would be music and not sports talk since they keep saying they’re not a sports station lol
