New Station 96.9 Jamz KXTJ-LP

A little candle stick that you have to live out on 410 and Ingram to US90 to pick up. It is on 96.9 and it's some sort of Classic Hits/Jammin Hits type music with a Tejano show thrown in hear and there. Just picked the station up yesterday night. But when you get to the Medical Center KXBJ (simulcating KSBJ out of Houston fights for the frequency with RDS)

According to their facebook page they bill themselves as "San Antonio's First LP FM Station"

Tejano with classic hits? I guess if 107-5 can mix it with country, the operator of 96-9 must figure why not?

Maybe it's because I've never heard the two mixed together, but that sounds a little odd. Here you are, jamming along with a classic hit from, say Chaka Khan, and boom! Here's Los Palominos with "Duele el Amor".

That'd be a little startling, lol.

For those of us over here in Houston, the calls chosen are certainly familiar. KXTJ was the home of "Super Tejano 108" for a spell, prior to becoming KQQK, after 106-5 dropped the Tejano format.

I've listened. PurpleDevil it's not classic hits, but more of a rhythmic AC format. Here is a stream. http://67.212.165.106:8008/
Pretty good station for what it is although I hope they can do something about their signal. It really doesn't get far around the antenna location, probably because they're using a low tower.

I remember 106.7 Jamz, back in the late 90s-early 00s, and this station has the exact name and almost the exact same format.

I agree it's more of a rhythmic oldies or urban ac format, than classic hits. So far I've heard some mid 80's Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Chaka Khan, some 1970s disco, some 90s r&b, also heard Destiny's Child from the early 00s.

A tejano classics show, doesn't kxtn do that on Sundays?

Since it is still a CP, I wonder if the operator is still ironing out the finer details. At just under 4 meters HAAT, the antenna is probably mounted on top of the house or a short tower. I doubt it can go any higher, especially if there a HOA at that location.

Perhaps in the trees.... :)

Off the air these past couple days, and their Facebook shows little new stuff on it.

I believe they're trying something new or moving the antenna. I expect it will be up sometime before their CP expires, hopefully with a better signal.

I can hear KXTJ back on the air. They are now calling themselves "Super Hits 96-9", with classic hit format.

KXTJ off, but on it's way back

KXTJ is currently off the air now, but on it's way back. We'll have our great LPFM up and running with better coverage, soon.
For now, listen on TuneIn or at http://67.212.165.106:8008/. :)
