New Station Coming to Jackson?

Forever Communications is running a spot for an Account Executive which mentions the company adding another station in the near future.

It was in the FCC records a few weeks back that Forever is swapping 105.3 with Grace for 97.7. I found out that when the deal is done that Grace will be moving their Dove CCM format to 105.3. I don't know what Forever plans to do with 97.7, but I hope they don't just move the TJ Network there. That has been the biggest waste of two FM stations and a translator in Jackson. I hope they plan to go back to doing some music format at least on 97.7.

Don't hold your breath. Forever isn't really good with formats outside of satellite automation and country.

Here is an ad from WYNU Rock 92.3's website: http://rock923.net/pages/4201608.php?

Apparently they're starting a new Urban AC station, very likely on 97.7 after the swap. So that means there will probably be one less station on the TJ Network. The ad said the new station is starting in less than a month, possibly Labor Day weekend?

I was listening to The Dove 97.7 this morning and they were announcing that they were moving to 105.3 in Mid-September, but no exact date yet. I'd guess that little or nothing is being said on 105.3 about the changes, but people who listen to both stations will probably start asking questions.

Another thought: What will happen to 94.3, which had been simulcasting with 105.3? They have never had their own format, and have always simulcast another Jackson area station, and usually marketing it to the Dyersburg area. I guess it could still be part of the TJ Network and simulcast 1390, but it won't reach into Jackson since they also have a translator on 94.1. They used to simulcast Froggy 104, and I guess they could go back to that. I doubt if they will simulcast the new format on 97.7 since those two stations are so close together, or 92.3 since they already have a good signal all over West TN.

In any case I hope this means that we may be getting rid of the glut of FM news talk stations in the Jackson area, with 105.3 changing owners and formats, and with 94.3 possibly changing. The TJ Network only needs 1390 and possibly one FM frequency and not two full power FMs and a translator.

The changeover started yesterday. The new urban AC format came on 97.7 some time yesterday morning, and they have been playing a loop of clips from different songs and calling themselves JJ 97.7, which will probably be until Monday morning.

The Dove went back and forth between dead air and their regular automated CCM format on 105.3 until they came on for good probably some time around Noon. Even Friday they were running the announcements that the change would take place in mid-September with more information to come, but I never heard anything said that it would happen yesterday, although I figured it was probably coming at any time. The new call letters are WDVW.

Although I heard The Dove announcing their move to 105.3, I never heard anything mentioned on The TJ Network. I was noticing on their Facebook page that people were asking what happened, and there was finally a mention about the change last night, and they also said they would still be on 94.3 and the translator on 94.1, and finally dropped 105 on their website and facebook page. Although I don't listen to them regularly it sounds like they didn't do a very good job of letting listeners know, and I imagine there will be some negative reaction because of it, although some people probably knew if they heard it on 97.7.

I've always thought the TJ Network was a waste of FM frequencies that could be used for other music formats. But if they want to have an FM presence 94.3 and the translator on 94.1 are still more than enough. At least the glut of FM news/talk stations in Jackson is a little less now.

I checked the stations today to see how they were. The Dove was mentioning their move to 105.3 and pretty much doing what they did on 97.7. JJ 97.7 was playing full songs, but it sounded automated and they didn't sound like they had a morning show yet. The TJ Network acted as if they never existed on 105.3, but I didn't hear anyone calling commenting on it either.

I listened to 97.7 today in the car andthought it was okay. There was no live djs at the time I was listening. Glad that there is something else on the radio now. Not into country and rock and roll. Really hope Jackson area radio changes some more, we'll see.

Where is the studio for The Dove? Highway 412? Their Facebook page has several pics of "the new studio" taken earlier this year. Is JJ in Jackson?

When I think of JJ, I think of Good Times. Dy-no-mite :D They should have came up with something better than that. ::)

Maybe they think their new station will be "dyn-o-mite!" ;D Let us if they run some promos to that effect. (I think, however, that just "J-97.7" would be better.)

I believe The Dove is in the same studio with 93.1 on Highway 412 at Bells now. Just guessing, but I'd think that JJ is at the same building on Radio Road where the other Forever stations are now.

I had the same thought about Jimmie Walker and Good Times when 97.7 started calling themselves JJ 97.7. :D

You said that they are urban AC. Are they heavy on tuneage from the '70s? If so, the "JJ" reference might start to make more sense, although I still think that that is lame.

That is correct. :) Suppose to stand for Jammin' Jackson.

Thought there would be a station that has the monkier, if you will, called "The Hub", since Jackson is referred as "The Hub City".

Was this the station that was originally in Trenton? I believe that they also had a studio in Dyersburg for a while there, too. Keep in mind that this was a LONG time ago, probably in the mid '80s at the latest. But then again, it's been 20 years since I lived in west Tennessee!

If WYJJ would play a lot more of Anita Baker, Luther Vandross, Seal, Al Jarreau, George Benson, Babyface, Marvin Gaye, Sade, Earth, Wind and Fire, Patti Austin, The Isley Brothers, The Temptations and others, I would probably be listening more often.

Would like to see some Jazz/CJazz on the weekends as many urban adult contemporary stations already have. :-X
