"New" Station for NE Georgia?

Today's "Taylor on Radio-Info" reports a "brand new FM" (WLHR, 92.1) in Lavonia today? Though I'm way out of listening range for this station (I'm in Morganton, NC), I had thought there had been a 92.1 FM in this part of the state for many years--either licensed to Royston or Elberton, which are very close by. I certainly mean no ill-will toward Mr. Art Sutton, because I thoroughly enjoy and am educated by his postings on Radio-Info. But the story in today's "Taylor on Radio-Info" states that Mr. Sutton has built this station from the ground up. Maybe I need further educating on this...but my interpretation of brand new is creating something out of nothing. In this case--unless my imagination has gone totally wild--there has been a 92.1 in this area, but it has been moved. And, Mr. Sutton--though I've never met you I have lots of respect for you from what I've gleaned from your posts here and from others who've posted about you. I'm just a little puzzled by Tom Taylor's article.

Eric...

WLHR is a new station, although you are correct about an existing facility at 92.1.

WSGC-FM/Elberton operated at 92.1 from 1973 until about a month ago. In an application that was filed before Art Sutton bought the Elberton stations, it was requested that the 92.1 frequency be reallocated from Elberton to Lavonia, which the FCC ordered to be done.

When Tom Taylor said that Art had built a new station from the ground up, he meant it very literally. WLHR has a new tower, transmitter, studio equipment, studios, offices, call letters, city of license and staff. WLHR covers very little of the area covered by 92.1 at Elberton.

Split hairs if you like, but this was the birth of a new facility...not the reincarnation of an old one.

From their website, it sounds like "good, old-fashioned home-town radio".....that's the stuff that Broadcasting was made for (and, that made broadcasting).

Good Luck to them. I hope to listen to them, next time I get back to Georgia!

Okay, I did some more surfing and have somewhat answered my own question...

http://www.elbertonradio.com/

At the entrance to the station website, there's a 96.5 FM in the logo for Elberton Radio's oldies website, but there's already a WSGC-FM at 105.1. Is the 96.5 a translator? Unfortunately there's no record of a 96.5 either at radio-locator.com, or radiostationworld.com. Does anybody know? ???
