They are back on the air!!!!
Sometime this past Sat. night or Sunday morning WRMO "93-7 The Wave" came back on from their new transmitter site., Amazing how they got on so fast, after having their antenna installed 9 days earlier! Nothing heard Saturday afternoon or evening, but heard Sunday morning at 9:30 while headed to Portland. Good signal here on Mount Desert Island, but quite a bit of multipath distortion due to the mountains and hills here on the island, but solid signal from Ellsworth up Route 1A thru Bangor and to about Etna/Dixmont along I-95 southbound; then lost to adjacent-channel splatter from 93.5 True Oldies WCTB Fairfield.

Coming back from Portland earlier today, via Route 3 from Augusta to Belfast, they started booming in just west of Belfast, and sold signal Along Routes 1&3 thru Searsport, Stockton Springs, Bucksport and into Ellsworth, not surprisingly.

Their transmitter on Martins Ridge just east of Franklin (Officially it is in township T9SD) is actually closer to Ellsworth than Milbridge.
During the three or so hours of listening the past couple of days, I'd call it an Adult Contemporary station focusing on 70s/80s/80s hits. "Coastal Hits Downeast" is a frequent liner. Sounds very automated and voice-tracked. No news, weather or ads, yet; a few PSAs. They ID as WRMO Milbridge, and alternate towns from all over DownEast Maine for their secondary location.
Not sure where the studio is...but wil head down that way next week on a day off. Dying to check them out.
I wish them the best!!

Thanks for the heads up rjoc! Tuned in for an hour yesterday and listening this morning. The format is very upbeat. Funny thing is no one had been playing anything by groups like Earth, Wind and Fire or Olivia Newton-John or a lot of 70's pop in this market for quite awhile. Now we have two doing it and in my opinion doing it well. This one and Big 104.

I wish these guys a ton of success, 'cause I'm sure it won't be easy. I remember the previous incarnation of 93.7 and there were quite a few hometown advertisers. I hope they can get them again.

Programming wise, you're right, the computer makes it all possible. At least there is a morning show with local news. Kudos for that. They promoed "American Top 40 - The 70's" for Sunday night at 7. A couple of surprises in the tune department. "Can We Still Be Friends" by Todd Rundgren and a version of the Mary Tyler Moore show theme by some male singer. Still can't track that one down.

Heard a sweeper for disco hits. Right now they're playing "Walking In Rhythm" by The Blackbyrds. I'm enjoying this, I'll stay tuned to see what they have to offer. Still have my mp3 player nearby though. :)

I thknk that was done by Sonny Curtis (or is it Sunny Curtis). His record company released it while the show was popular; but the show was a lot more popular than the audio-only record.

More on Sonny Curtis.

In the early 90s I used to deal weekly with an independent record promoter who was his next door neighbor. She said he was a great guy.

The STATIONS MUSIC SOUNDS GREAT!
WHAT a Signal..BLANKETS ELLSWORTH up to BUCKSPORT and Beyond
They(If they can get good Salespeople) are going to Clean up in
ELLSWORTH....I'm Happy at 93.5 TRUE OLDIES BUT if you need a list of
Clients in Ellsworth to contact...Be Happy to help out
469-3038 in Bucksport...Finally a Station that PLAYS the HITS...70s
Mainly
I;ve worked in BOSTON at WHDH WROR OLDIES 103 WVBF WMJX
And San Francisco KABL so I know How to do GREAT RADIO
You Will BE "DOWNEAST MAINES LOCAL STATION" IF YOU DO IT RIGHT!

It's comin' in loud and clear down heah neah Blue Hill! Great signal. Very good playlist. Definitely some potential there . . .

Visited some friends Downeast this weekend and had a chance to listen to WRMO. In Bangor, they come in stronger than WNSX, who I guess is their local competition, but WRMO's signal is not strong enough to have any major impact on the Bangor market. (You know how a station can slam right in on the car radio, but not even make an appearance on the cheap portables most listening is done on.)

Down toward Ellsworth, WNSX definitely wins in the signal derby. And as I headed Downeast toward Machias, WNSX's signal blew WRMO away.

Given that "Downeast Maine" is WRMO's market, I'd say they have their work cut out for them. But... they do have a unique programming position and they sound pretty good.

I say best of luck to both of those stations! Downeast Maine is lucky to have two stations whose products are far superior to most markets that size.

I've noticed not a lot of rock played on WRMO (maybe to offset WNSX?). When I get a chance to listen I hear very little Steve Miller, John C. Mellencamp, Bon Jovi type songs and more uptempo Madonna, KC & The Sunshine Band, Michael Jackson songs being played.

JUST HIRE "IRENE HAFFORD" from WNSX and YOU WOULD OWN the ELLSWORTH MARKET SALES WISE!
She is "THAT GOOD" Locally with Sales
THIS NEW STATION IN DOWNEAST MAINE HAS "THE PRODUCT"

I heard that song also on this past week on 93-7 the Wave WRMO while coming back from downEast...., and it wasn't by Sonny Curtis who did the TV theme. It actually sounded like Sammy Davis JR! Serious!! Now, I'm curious who it is myself!

OK rjoc, I'm glad you heard the "Love Is All Around" song. It has been so long since I've seen MTM, I couldn't remember what the theme sounded like. But when I heard this on 93.7 I didn't think it sounded like the theme by Sonny Curtis. But I'll be danged if I know who it is. You're in the ball park with Sammy Davis Jr., it's him or some pop vocalist of the time. Google has been no help to me this time.

*edit*
Of course I post that and then I go to Wikipedia and Sammy Davis Jr. did release a cover of the song. Probably it's him. I like Joan Jett's cover the best though. :)
