New station on air: KTGP-LP 99.5

Just heard this station this morning play a quick legal and some hip-hop gospel music. Was able to find the following mission statement through the FCC:

"The purpose of our proposed community educational radio station is to provide the African American Community of Saint Louis, Missouri a voice. We will also use the airwaves to achieve
our mission of providing education on parenting, domestic violence, anger management,
family counseling, mentoring and to give hope and direction to an impoverished
community. We will also promote healthy lifeskills through our sports programming, inspiring young athletes to reach their full potential on and of the court."

No coverage map, though. Didn't sound too clear in the CWE.

The transmitter's located across the street from the Galleria. It's on the tower with the "CH2MHILL" logo between Maggiano's Little Italy and the Homewood Suites. If traveling on 170 by the Galleria right before 64/40, you'll pass right next to it. The predicted 60 dBu contour doesn't quite go to the CWE, though I've heard reports that it does better to the north and west than the signal contours would indicate.

Here's a coverage map; It does do a little better to the north and west then the map would indicate. They are squeezing the most they can out of their 100 watts.

KTGP-LP is sounding a little more professional these days. For those outside the listening area, it's now "Praise 99.5" with a website at praise995fm.com.

Seems like the purpose of the station has changed a bit too from their initial message to the FCC. From the website:

OUR PURPOSE:

** To Glorify (worship and praise) GOD

** To Encourage (edify and unify) believers

** Be a shining light (example) in our
community/world and lead others to Christ.

Clearly unlike anything else on the STL radio dial...

Been dark a couple months now; I guess they couldn't make it work...Rent at the University Club Tower for their antenna and studio must have cost a pretty good chunk of change; I guess it was too much of a nut for a 7 watt radio station to crack.

After 6 months of quietly rolling out, KTGP-LP has officially "debuted" on Monday 7/3/2017 as "Mix 99.5 The Heart And Soul Of St. Louis".
Says co-owner, senior VP + operations manager Lou Thimes Jr. ("The Real JR"): “You want to build up the listenership first.” “You don’t want to start with the big guns on day one when nobody is listening.”

The format is a mix of Gospel and Urban AC.
Hosts include many well-known St. Louis personalities of the past such as Jim Gates, Niecy Davis, Tossin’ Ted, Nappy DJ Needles, Calvin King, Edie B, DJ VuDu, Darrel “EZ” Eason and Thimes himself.
