Who are "The Groove Guys"? Everyone here seems to speak so highly of them. Do they have any prior radio experience, or did they just stumble into their original gig? What was it about their programming that was so extraordinary? I'm not being a smartaleck or anything...I never listened so I really don't know. Outside of this board, I don't know of anyone who's ever mentioned them...

Oh, great! Now I can't listen to WLS. Hope they knock the power on KTLR down at night!

They are some of the brothas from the old KAEZ EZ107.7 days, I believe. For a while, in recent history, they had 1340 time-broker rented to broadcast thoughout the night as "The Groove" as 1140 was supposed to be off/ significantly reduced power at nighttime. It became a thorn in the Perrys' side, so the Perrys ended up leasing the time on 1340 at night instead, giving KVSP a night signal and put "The Groove" off the air. They have been hunting a place to broadcast ever since.

This should be fun...

Yeah it should be, but I was hoping they would be on a station that's 24 hours and broadcast the format in the evenings when 1140 signs off at sunset or on FM perferably. Is that Edwards guy buying time on 890 like he did with 1340 and 1490 in Guthrie.
Edited by X-Man on 01/01/06 06:45 AM.

I Know You Gonna Dig This

Well, you don't know jack! Pun intended. How utterly utterly annoying to keep running that thing over and over, and in the middle of songs to boot. I have to assume it's not just poor boardop skills, since it happens so much. Did they do that nonsense on KAEZ and the Groove?

And I'm very impressed--they already had testimonial sweepers only 24 minutes after debuting! Bravo on such prompt success! :)~

And I'm terribly sorry, but "My Boo" is not quite a classic.

But I'm not trying to be a hater...any radio not controlled by out-of-state corporate micromanagers and indifferent stockholders is AOK with me.

By the way, what is Perry doing with 1140? I noticed they don't report to the R&R Urban AC chart anymore. Yes I should've listened while I was at it, but I've got several other things I need to do this afternoon...

I don't ever recall them playing "I Know You Gonna Dig This" the line from one of the DJ's in the movie Car Wash on KAEZ, and they played My Boo by Ghost Town DJ's on the station? You're right that is not classic:) I know their sister stations KKNG and KTUZ are streaming, Does KTLR stream it's station?

Re: I Know You Gonna Dig This

Oh no no no, even worse--Usher and Alicia Keys' Boo!

As for streaming, my computer ain't got the necessities to listen to Tyler's streams, so I can't even say I've listened to KKNG thatta way. But I'll bet, with all that syndicated programming KTLR runs, that would be prohibitive or prohibited. Kent can probably answer that better! ;)

Hey! Thanks for the good words! I can first confirm KTLR 890 does not stream, at least not yet. When it comes to streaming syndicated programming, how easy it is really depends on the individual programs your station runs. Some are very easy to stream while others, like sports broadcasts, are downright impossible. You have to obtain the rightsholders' consent to stream their programming, and that's why it varies so much. Streaming a talk station is really an interesting issue in and of itself. From a cost standpoint, it's much cheaper to stream because you don't have to pay as many webcast performance royalties, and you only require about half the bandwidth of music stations, if even that (and bandwidth is even more expensive than performance fees in many cases). However, you have every bit the headaches gaining clearance for your shows.

I Know You Gonna Dig Streaming

Well, I was listening to the end of the local talk show on before "Almighty 890" (or Mighty 890, as it seems they sometimes say it) this afternoon, and the caller was complaining that she couldn't pick up the show way down south (Pauls Valley or somewhere) until around noon, and the host said she'd be able to listen on the internet soon. So I guess it's on Tyler's agenda...perhaps doing both KTLR and KOJK simultaneously.

From what I hear, Tyler has NO plans to stream KTLR.
