New Station!

Excuse the sarcasm: the "New Mix 96.9!" Damn. I am excited just by the moniker. It's cutting edge... for 1989.

The only 96.9 is in Charleston, and I don't honestly see a "MIX" format coming there. Citadel is having a hard enough time with The Wolf, and The AC and Hot AC formats are overcrowded in the market as is. This could be someone's idea of wishful thinking!

I don't see a Hot AC in Charleston. Citadel already has 95, there's 101.7, 102.5, Chick FM...too much overlap. The Hot AC format isn't really on a roll anyway...

and I don't think they'd bring AC back.

Since we're in a wishful thinking mode, I'd like to see "Surf 96-9, Charleston's New Rock & Alternative" ;D one can hope

If this station was going to be in Charleston, I don't see Citadel doing a Mix. Judy Ellis likes doing odd names like Ed, JR, The Whale and Kim. Although Citadel does have some properties using the Mix moniker. I think Citadel does need to do something with the 96.9 frequency in Charleston. It has become an embarassment and is now seeing numbers below what they were when the signal was only at half power. Wednesday will probably be a very telling day for that station and what will happen to it. The fact that there is no PD in place, would also seem as though they are waiting to decide what to do with the station before putting a PD in. The GM Jim Beard I believe tanked and flipped a country at his previous Citadel post in Little Rock. It would make sense for something else to be on the signal since Citadel has lost the Country battle. Music quantity was The Wolf's past chance, but now they continue to try and pound that they play the most country with 96 minute marathons and just sound foolish since the heritage country WEZL is doing 103 minute marathons. WEZL now enjoys almost triple the ratings of the Wolf and the Wolf is now the lowest rated frequency of those sharing a comparable signal in the market. A flip, trying to do something would now surprise me at all. But, a Mix sounds odd.

Citadel couldn't pull it off at 107.5. I don't know what made them think they could do it at 96.9. If not modern rock, how about Citadel move Jamz to 96.9? It covers a lot more ground than 96.9 Folks in Orangeburg, Sumter, and Florence can hear 96.9.

What is it that WEZL has that Wolf doesn't? To me The Wolf sounds real good and the liners sound upbeat unlike WEZL. But somehow WEZL does better. You think Charleston could do well with both country stations. Look at Charlotte, NC with 103.7 WSOC and 96.9 Kat almost neck and neck but WSOC usually always pulls out on top.
