NEW STL CHR?

Rumor is the St. Louis market is getting a new CHR within this upcoming year is this true? I find it hard to believe CBS would flip any of their current stations. Emmis not likely? Bonneville? I suppose someone could purchase KFUO and flip it.

Haven't heard anything yet, but nothing would surprise me. Couldn't see Bonneville flipping any stations - I guess someone could be buying KFUO. John Beck at Emmis would have to eat a lot of crow to put CHR back on the air - when he blew up CHR WKBQ several years ago, he said CHR radio will "Never Work in St. Louis."

BTW, are you the same Joey B who was on the MJ show?

CBS flipping KYKY to CHR would be surprising but not outside the realm of possibility. CBS has been pushing CHR and, with PPM on the horizon, KYKY taking on Z-107.7 would be of interest.

I love CHR radio, but let's be real here: According to the new PPM released ratings, KYKY (Y-98) is the third highest cuming station in St. Louis. (Z-107.7 is fourth), and is third highest in shares with a super healthy 6.6. It has the kind of demos, numbers, and shares that advertisers crave!
Therefore, the chance of anyone messing with Y-98's format at the present time are zero.
The station most likely to flip to CHR is Talker KFTK FM 97.1.
Urban KATZ 100.3 The Beat isn't doing too hot, but its owned by Clear Channel, which owns the market's CHR/Pop Z-107.7. KATZ has also applied to change its the location of its tower to better serve the market. Country station KSD 93.7 The Bull, another CC property, also isn't performing as well as it could so it might flip at some point.
Bonneville has a conservative corporate culture so even though Spots on 101.1 isn't performing well I doubt we'll see that station go CHR.

Word has it that the JOY FM people have brokered a deal to buy KFUO FM. They hope to be on the air by March/April 2010.
CBS is running a CHR format on one of the KEZK HD side channels at present

I know this would not reach the entire STL market, but I would look for a CHR to show up in the Westplex area on 101.7 or 93.3. The current owner of those stations is reportedly having money troubles and those frequencies may soon be up for grabs.

I wouldnt be surprised to see 101.1 go CHR,, they were once a CHR leaned Rhythmic AC as Movin, and also a Rock Heavy Modern AC as THE RIVER,, so dont count bonneville out if they can smell cash.
