New Streamer: KPWR/Los Angeles

What in the world happen to Power 106? I listened today, and I thought I was listening to KIIS FM. I heard alot of pop sounding stuff. They sound horrible or hip hop is dying a slow death.

Unfortunately, when your competition is KIIS and KAMP, what you'll hear on KPWR is what you'll get. Another thing I notice is that Power 106 seems to favor Electropop/Dance cuts lately. If they return to its Dance roots somewhere down the line I wouldn't be surprised.

It seems like that is what's taking over. We have a local hip hop video show that comes on Saturday nights here in Dallas/Ft. Worth that's hosted by K104 staff. To my surprise, I seen videos by Lady Gaga and Usher/Will I Am. I was shocked, because "Flava TV" has always been hip hop and r&b.

i expected to hear alot of west coast stuff on power 106 but thats not the case

and the afternoon show everyday from 3pm-7pm is 5 hours of non stop mixing wow

Mike, that's what I expected. I was disappointed. While most markets show love to their local artists now, I guess L.A. is not.

I am dissapointed, I thought this station would be so L.A. focused, or at least the west coast version of Hot 97, as Hot 97 shows SO MUCH love to New York rappers. Instead, all I hear is your average run of the mill Rhythmic that favors dance.

They were jumping on the West Coast Hip-Hop tracks.... until the "New" KDAY came on the scene, followed by KIIS-FM's retweaking, KXOL going Hurban, KAMP's launch, and the PPMs throwing a wrench into their ratings.

In a nutshell, KPWR is following the newest trend in the Rhythmic genre, so if you can beat them, join them.

I think the loss of 100.3 the beat was the end of power 106 as a hip hop station, once they left their competition was KIIS FM, so they started to sound like them

What is their slogan now? If it's still "Where hip hop lives", they need to change that. With those "watered down" hits they're playing, hip hop is not even a guest there.

I happen to like this station and how they favor Dance stuff and the mix shows.. I was sad when they went pure urban in the late 90s.. Keep in mind,, KPWR is a rhythmic, not an Urban,, Rhythmics play some Dance and POP.. so if you dont like it dont listen.. You have tons of stations that play quality hip hop online,, I like hip hop too,, but Dance is where my heart is.. I like the pure Hip Hop stations, but I also like the stations that play dance as well..

I'm with Clubber. There's nothing like this -- a full blown rhythmic -- in my part of the south. Nowadays R&B dominates urban stations around here so it's definitely refreshing to be able to hear this station's stream. Say what you will about KPWR but they have generally beat a lot of the other Rhythmic/CHR stations to the punch on new music-- and I think that's somewhat of an accomplishment from a well performing station in the number two radio market. I don't know how fair it is to compare Power 106 to Hot 97, which is much more urban contemporary sounding in comparison (that's read-- MUCH more R&B). However, I have such disdain for R&B that I'd rather listen to pop. Therefore, Power 106 is a winner.

To each his own. I can digest some dance music like what they played on KDL here in the DFW, and Energy in Chicago and Phoenix, but that mess I heard on Power, I'm not feeling. Sorry.

but they do need to stop calling themselves a hip hop station, They should at least say hits and hip hop, just like wild 94.9 changed to the bay"s hit music

how do you guys find out like power 106 in los angelos is on the internet without listen live in the website because it not inside the website that so cool how you cand do it
