New subchannels for KSWT

Somehow I missed this last time I was in Yuma, but KSWT replaced its standard-def simulcast on 13.2 with Universal Sports. Yeah, I didn't believe it either: a CBS affiliate airing an NBC station on a subchannel, but this is a market that has Fox, ABC, The CW (partly owned by CBS), and Telemundo (owned by NBC) all on one channel, KECY. I was in Yuma again yesterday and found a channel 13.3 showing color bars. An email query to the station revealed that they will be starting Estrella TV on Dec. 1st.

Universal Sports was offered first to the local NBC stations, but then offered to other stations. For example, in Reno it's on the ABC station, in Pittsburgh, Fresno, and Cincinnati and Columbus OH it's on local LPTV broadcasters, in Norfolk and Harrisburg it's on local Independents, in Albany NY, Houston TX, and Portland OR it's on the local CW, and in Anchorage and Boston it's on the My Network TV affiliate. And that doesn't cover all of its affiliates.

...surprised Universal Sports hasn't popped up on KVOA-TV/v4's piggyback. In fact, KVOA's currently the only digital signal in Tucson without any subchannel whatsoever, while KOLD-TV/v13 has two, 13.2 being a graphics-only apology for The Tube not appearing on that channel anymore...

I love KOLD's apology slate on 13.3, nearly 3 years after The Tube went off the air! I don't believe Telemundo O&O KHRR has a second programming stream either, unless they've started one in the past week.

...I stand corrected, KHRR/v40 doesn't have a subchannel, either. Although, with four English-language Tucson-market stations supporting Spanish-language subchannels, it would be only fair that KHRR piggyback one English-language subchannel onto its Spanish-language primary channel ;-) ...
