New Subscriber, some thoughts...

Well, i bought this little more than a week ago and overall I love it. Prepaid a year. The day after I got it I took a 16hr drive to portland me (from columbus oh); Worked everywhere w/o a glitch (save interstate overpasses). Audio quality seems pretty good.

The programming is mostly great. Because I'm a bit of a news junkie I love the BBC, CBC, NPR, ect;

Their Dance music is okay, a bit mediocre.

Their political talk channels could use some work. 2 right wing and 1 left wing, plus fox news ect.
Some questions that come to my mind, with the multitude of Sports channels they seem to have, why does talk have to be pre empted for games? Certainly they have the bandwith to run those games on seperate channels?

I got the Starmate2 receiver, the blue is a little annoying even on the lowest brightness setting, but a nice receiver.

Overall sirius gets a 90% for me; I love it, but it could use some tweaks like anything else. I think it has a better programming lineup than XM.
My thoughts are a little disjointed, but its work after lunch...

I too got Sirius a couple of weeks ago. Overall I love it!! I do have some complaints though. One of the main reasons I got satellite radio was to escape the annoying commericals and annoying Djs on the FM. It seems that I no longer have the commericals but what's the point of a jock when I have a display on my dash telling me what's playing?

Also, twice this past weekend my wife wanted to listen to music on her favorite channel "The Pulse" and both times there were interviews playing. On Saturday some sort of Scott Stap interview and on Sunday a Bryan Adams interveiw. I know it sounds totally crazy but why don't the keep music on the music channels and talk on the talk stations. I also think they should rename Maxim Radio. I think they should call it "college radio" because that's what it reminds me of. I expected much more from Maxim. What a let down!!! Well, overall I am happy.

The Pulse has had a lot of interviews lately. It's just a holiday season thing.

If you want to hear your favorite music, with no DJ's or interviews (GOD FORBID!)...play CD's. Cheaper than the 12.95 monthly subscription to Sirius.
Edited by danwxman on 12/21/05 07:35 PM.

I didn't know CD were free now...The RIAA must have seen the light..Last time I looked they were 15.99 or more for new music. DMX or Music Choice have no DJ's Sirius shuffle has no DJ's either. Just the robot VO's

I've noticed more interviews lately on other channels, too. No doubt it's partly to coincide with the push for holiday CD sales. I'm assuming Sirius gets something in return from the labels for this? Cash? Co-promotional support? I know this stuff doesn't happen for free. They gave over Ch. 10 to plug the 30th anniversary of Bruce Springsteen's Born to Run, and I know they didn't do it for nothing.
I'm assuming there is a lot of back scratching going on. But what did Sirius get out of the Stones deal in exchange for the Wall to Wall music on 98? I was at a Stones show in October and didn't see one Sirius banner or display.

Where do you buy your cd's at?? Please let me know. Trust me 99% of the people that are tuning into a MUSIC station aren't doing it to hear some knuckhead dj Yap. If the format is music then MUSIC is the Star not the Disc Jockey.

>> Its still called RADIO, not juke box, so some dj input is nice. And have fun listening to one CD per month which can buy you one month subscription to Sirius or XM. 99% is a bit high, where did you get your "survey" facts from? DJ talk is way less than AM/FM stations. If you'd rather buy one CD with a dozen songs on it a month for less than a sat radio subscription, more power to you- enjoy!!

Then you're not shopping at the right places my friend. You can find CDs anywhere from $9.99 to $11.99 (maybe $12.99) at Circuit City or Best Buy. These are current titles as well. Or you can sign up with BMG...you can stock up through them.

To be honest with you, I haven't bought a CD in years due to the fact that I'm not a big fan of the RIAA etc, and now that I have Sirius I'm more than happy with the music channels I now have access to.
