New Sunday Evening Anchor on KTVK

There was a new female anchor on 3TV tonight. I wonder if she's the permanent replacement for Carey Pena on Sunday pm's.

No, said station is KYTV. (KYMT doesn't exist, though WYMT, a semi-satellite of WKYT with its own news located in Hazard, KY, does.)

Marie looked fairly polished in her delivery of the news.

Agreed! Marie seemed very polished. Her only slip was when she was bantering with Brittney about the weather -- she said something about "locals telling her that this weather is very hot". I wanted to say, "Well, Marie, Arizona is not a foreign country!"

Maybe just me, but I'm not sure how that is a slip. I refer to myself as a "local" all the time (after 56 years out here).

I agree, I like what she brings to the newsdesk.

Did you actually hear the comment? To me, it was awkward and condescending for a new local anchor (who is presumably trying to connect with a local Phoenix audience) to make that sort of remark. It would be totally different if she were a national reporter covering the record heat in Phoenx and bantering with, say, Brian Williams. But, as with anything, opinions may vary!

Hmmm, no I didn't hear it. And that probably would have made a difference. I'm sure she heard about it later. First days on the job can be such a nervous time, especially when it involves public speaking. ;D

And my original point was that she only made one slip. I thought she was very good. Oh yes, she gets an extra point for using Brittney Shipp's whole first name. Steve Ryan constantly says, "Thanks, Britt", which is annoying at best.
