New Talk Radio in Town

I received an e-mail today at the new 94.3 Talker from Bold Gold Media. Based on the images looks like Imus in the Morning, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck and Laura Ingram are part the line-up...nothing local as of now.

Yes, indeed. They've got a Facebook page and everything.

I think it's officially flipping to talk on March 1.

They also have a new Twitter feed, too:
http://twitter.com/943TheTalker

And their website, I assume, will be 943thetalker.com. Currently, a GoDaddy "coming soon" park page is up.

I have to hand it to Bold Gold for pulling this off. Who knew there would be a new FM talk signal featuring the likes of Beck and Hannity that is NOT owned by Clear Channel? Although, I understand Laura Ingraham will be airing from noon-3 PM on tape delay. A conservative talk station without Rush... Good luck pulling that off. It will be interesting to see the ratings trends across the day for the new 94.3.

Imus In The Morning Returning To Wilkes Barre/Scranton Was Me Recalling The Morning When WARM Was Carrying The Program And The Imus Show

Was Doing A Live Broadcast From Montage, I Believe .... When Imus Turned To Bob Cordaro And Said "You Drink Don't You Bob? ... Cordaro Responded

With An Emphatic "Yes" ... And Imus Said : I Thought So".

if they do it right, they will be the talk station to tune into. with imus, hannity, glenn beck and laura ingram on the air, and if they can get some good local conservitive live hosts, they should give wilk a run for the numbers. wilks been getting good numbers because they are they only game in town. when we had imus, hannity, beck .. rob neyhard, and kevin lynn doing local talk.... warm didnt spend any money to promote the shows, or anything else. thats why warm never had good ratings. this could be a good thing for bold gold, but they have to get good local talent, including, news, sports, weather, and keep local programing on 94.3. i heard they will be doing a polka show also.. i dont know if thats a good idea. if your going to do talk, then it should be talk.. also i know the sales people love info- shows on the weekends, and of course its because of the money... but they are a turn off. well, theres my two cents worth, i wish them luck...

Dave:
Back when Imus was on WARD, Bob helped arrange for an interview with Imus at the studio right after his show. I remember tell the crew that I wasn't sure how long it would last and don't be surprised if at some point he just gets up and says "Well this is over"

So I am starting the interview, mentioning that Imus has just been named one of Time's most influential persons in the media...and Imus chimes in with..."And a real Prick".....

He is not the same today as he was back then, but which of us is...it will be good to hear him again..

While we are on the subject of Imus ,who can forget the time in 2000 when he was scheduled to do a live appearence at the Raddison.
and left without doing the broadcast when they would not put a call to him from his wife. He went back to the WFAN stiudios to do his
show, and proceeded to blast both Warm and The Hotel.
Of course the first time Warm Brought him in to the old Stadium club in 1999,the broadcast came off without a hitch, and Imus even praised
Warm for its work.
Whatever you think of Imus he is one of the'Original Shock Jocks' and still entertaining>

i always thought imus said what he thought, because he had the you know what, to say what was on his mind, being on the left, on the right, or in the middle. if he thought bush was right or wrong , he said so, if he thought clinton was right or wrong, he said so.. so know you didnt miss any memo.. imus says what he thinks.. more important, it gives listners another outlook for talk radio, and compition is a good thing.

This station will cause some major pain to the upper demo male stations like Rock 107, WILK, Froggy!! The personailites are great and trust me no local talent will be able to keep pace. Great idea and let the radio wars begin. This should be fun and interesting.

The Times Leader on-line has the story with a quote from the local GM or owner. It will be interesting to see what impact Beck has in the market. All the others have already been on-air in the area, so we know their track record.

if im not mistaken, when i was producing some of the talk shows on warm, beck was on from 9a to 12p.. if i remember right. i cant remember if rob was p.d. back then, or if greg foster was their. i think beck was doing the show from philly, we had alot of syndicated shows.. dr. joy brown, dave ramsey, and others ...most of them didnt do that well, but as i said in an earlier post, i think its good for our market. now listners will have a choice of news talk.

Didn't they try Imus in the valley, and he bombed??? As a broadcast professional I don't go for the shock jock crap; imus and stern have gotten rich over radiogarbage. They don't care for it in the valley. He who ignores history is doomed to repeat it!!!

WVPO/WPLY are still carrying Imus daily there with little consequence. Personally, I think shock radio is now a thing of the past. Almost everything has been tried on the air now. Pushing the envelope further on the air could get you fired, a major lawsuit against the radio station, jail time or all three! I really think the programers at 94.3 need to rethink this issue NOT HAVING a local news/talks show in the mornings. They need a local team that can relate to the area's demos instead of starting off trying to pinch pennies by opting with Imus.

Imus never gets ratings. There aren't many syndicated choices when it comes to morning talk shows. Doug Stephan? Boring. Bob & Tom? Maybe. Imus is a sign you can't think of anything else. He stopped being relevant years ago. It appears 94.3 will sacrifice morning drive and noon to 3 in hopes of doing well elsewhere.

Imus in the Morning has become more of a news/talk show anyway. It is much different now from the shock-jock Imus days.

Sacrificing Noon-3? Laura Ingraham is not a shock-jock and she is one of the top talk radio hosts in America. This is a good choice for 94.3 because people will switch back and forth between Rush and her.

Like the hosts or not, WILK was #! in ratings for their LOCAL talk shows (people airing their grievances about the never ending corruption in Luzerne County, etc.) and Rush. I'm sure 94.3 will have some listeners, but, you can pick up Hannity on WABC and Imus on WFAN in the area now. WILK will do just fine. ;)

That's all good and well, but can you name me ONE local talk show host who is not already on WILK?
I can't think of one. If they hadn't cut Paula Deignan loose she would probably have been able to do a pretty good job, but aside from her who else can you think of?? Rob Neyhard? Is he even interested? There are a lot of good unemployed radio people floating around the area but none of them could really be considered a talk show host.

Imus, once fresh, vital and edgy, has become a carricature of himself. The dude, God love 'im, looks only slightly less dead than Keith Richards. That's actually quite a compliment when you think about it.

NEPA may an exception to the rule, but Ingaham or any of the other second tier pretenders doesn't usually unseat the master. Ingraham is a shrill clone. Captain Gasbag usually wins handily. He is, afterall, America's Anchorman.
