New Talk Station

Has no one mentioned this yet?

There's a thread on this subject already, but this is the first time I've seen that URL. It looks like a dead-ringer for the old NBC 1190 website. Their old website ( http://www.rockandroll1260.com ) is still active.

Since I haven't been in Phoenix in eight years, what is/was on 1260? Also, info I received says it will be simulcast on on 96.1.

KBSZ Apache Jct. was (still is, until Monday) an oldies station, automated except for morning drive. It moved from Wickenburg (on 1250) a few months ago, displacing ASU's The Blaze, which moved to 1330 a year ago but is currently off the air.

There are no translators or CPs for new stations shown in the CDBS database for 96.1 anywhere in Arizona - just full-powered stations in Tucson and Window Rock, plus an LPFM in Bisbee. Besides, KLPX Tucson gets into most of the SE valley, ruling out 96.1 there.

The original thread Keith mentioned is:

Also did you notice the "NBC 1260 Phoenix" (Phoenix? I thought KBSZ
wanted to be soooo A.J., or at least East Valley) program schedule has
Culinary Confessions weekdays 11 AM-1 PM. Is the show moving from
Lumberyard 1440 to the Big 'BSZ, or will it be a simulcast?

If I were Don & Phil Don & Kim, I'd hope for the simulcast. Would you
trade 5 kw from south Scottsdale for 800 watts from A.J.? I think not.

KBSZ can't be heard in 90% of Phoenix. It barely makes it through Tempe, and that's only if it's running the full 800 watts, which I'm still convinced it is not. They'd be better off staying in the Lumberyard. Maybe they got a better deal from KBSZ, although you get what you pay for. Gumpdusky at least can provide a better signal.

Other programs to be heard (if your trailer is close to theirs in Apache Junction) on NBC 12~Sixty include Phil Hendrie and Dr Bob Martin. (...and I thought Nurse Jeff was not easy on the eyes http://www.doctorbob.com/nurse-popup.html ) Just love that skyline shot of downtown Phoenix (or is that what A.J. looks like these days?) on the new web site. Guess when the wind is just right you can pick 'em up at Central & Washington. cue Gaydos....

What A Joke!

Looks like there's an application to bump the AM up to 3.5kw day, 500 night.

As for the 96.1 that Bud heard about, they have a translator licensed to Fort McDowell.
Here's the coverage map: http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FX1334647.html

Either way, "Phoenix" is a stretch.

I remember someone named Terry (Terry Morgan?) who would always post about NBC Radio on these boards (not necessarily just this one). Is he still around?

Both the licensed and application entries for nighttime have "0.05 kilowatts," which is
a fancy mathematical way of saying "50 watts," isn't it?

Terry is still a semi-regular on the NYRMB. He's fond of Mutual, too. (Bee-doop) :)

That would be a (ummmmm) 0% increase of their current nighttime authorization! The 3.5kw app for day power would definitely help, but is their Popeil Pocket Tower capable of handling that kind of juice?

Sorry, Lumberyard 14~Forty still has the advantage of more pow-pow-power both day and night. Goldminers Rule, NBC'ers Drool!

Is there any real difference between 50 and 52 watts? Perhaps the Old Gringo or one of
our engineer buddies can offer a side-by-side comparison. Of course, the Harris Five at
the Lumberyard can't get down to 52 watts...right, catfish (with a "c")?

And we have a follow-up on a story we first brought you on our iPad @ 9 show:

Not to worry, you Culinary Confessions listeners in the central, north and west Valley
areas--it will be simulcast on both Lumberyard 1440 and the Nifty 1260, as of Tuesday.

The long sad fall of Hendrie continues. Used to love him, but he treats his fans like crap, screw him, he blew his talent.

"Dr." Bob Martin? What, 4 hours of 90% commercial content on KFYI weekends isn't enough for that phony? The "Doctor" is about as useful as a 20 year old Russian condom that has been lying in the sun...

With that lineup, I expect the name to be "Independent 1260 KXAM" (the call letters are available!), but without Matt Gerson.

There's nothing that interests me on the schedule, other than the occasional listen to Jeffry O'Brien. I would have been delighted to at least see Michael Smerconish on the lineup, but maybe that's who KFNX is looking at to fill in the soon-to-be-vacant Dr. Laura time slot.

Notice that 7pm to 10pm has no show listed (except for Mondays from 7-8). Will they have the "sounds of silence" during that time? (not that anyone west of Val Vista can hear the station clearly at night).

It'll get worse once the music disappears...

I used to listen to the late, great KCCF 1100 and *loved* the station. I could hear the 1000 watts at Val Vista and University reliably every night. When they went talk, they literally disappeared into the Grand Junction interference and I couldn't tell who was what.

Same thing will happen with 1260 and their mighty 50 watt nighttime peanut roaster. Just what I wanted: another station with third- and fourth-rate syndicated talk. I'll bet Apache Junction will be underwhelmed.

Perhaps I'll reset the 1260 button in my car to 780 and enjoy a great station from Sedona...at least in the daytime...

Bill Heywood and Jim Spero thank you. :)

BTW, the new Nifty 1260 is featured on the cover and in a page 3 story in the (Saturday 09/04)
Scottsdale Republic community section, however I've yet to be able to find a link to it.

Why not try it out at night? Most of the time, you'll pick up 780 KOH from Reno, Nevada or the 780 station from south of the border. But, if you're lucky, you'll pick up all news radio 780, WBBM Chicago, a real treat for us Phoenicians. Good luck with that DX catch! ;)

As to Rock and Roll 1260 (soon to be NBC 1260), I'm wondering if NBC radio news will be heard at the top of every hour. For a while now, all we have in Phoenix is ABC radio news (courtesy of 92.3 KTAR) and FOX News radio (courtesy of 550 KFYI). CBS radio news is non-existent (except if you pick up SB 1070 at night from LA) along with the less-popular NBC radio news. Here's hoping we get some national network radio competition with NBC radio news at the top of the hour on Rock and Roll, er..., Trailerpark 1260! ;D

Doubtful, if the NBC News Radio (a service of Westwood One) website is accurate,
as it states the hourlies air only between 3 AM-7 PM PT Monday-Friday.

So if you're listening to the Nifty 1260 air monitor at the new Scottsdale studios
during night pattern, can you even hear the station?

"Trailerpark 1260" I LIKE that, asugeorge!

You can take the radio station out of the trailer park, but you can't take the trailer park out of the station.
