New Tejano Station

Well kinda tejano and new, La Nortena 850 and 101.7 plays alot of tejano music, and they upgraded their station today, with a better signal, and they even have it on hd now, 101.7 fm and 101.7 hd, la nortena for all the tejano fans,

So are they now trying to run 980 KRTX out of town? Seems like a lost cause to bury a station that doesn't even show up in the ratings, most of the time.

What do you mean they upgraded their station? Just the addition of HD? I mean, KXGJ has been 100kw for awhile now.

yeah well thi station is trying to compete against puro tejano and its doing a great job on that, and yes they up graded to a stronger signal. Now you could hear the sation in houston on fm with out hd radio. Before you would have to hear it on 850 am.

If the station is called "La Norteña" why is it playing tejano music? That is like having a station called Rock 107 and playing country.

Hmm, can't hear it in SE Houston. ::)

The "upgrade" was to 1500ft...BUT with a reduction in power to 28KW ERP iirc.....the service contour has not changed that much.......(its on the same tower as 96.9)...but that was done sometime back I thought

FCC database has the new KXGJ facility as still being in the CP stage, but that might not be up to date. Shows ERP of 35kw at 450 meters.

Haven't really noticed any difference in the 101.7 signal at my Cy-Fair location. It is usually heavily influenced by tropo conditions--at times quite solid, other times barely there. And sometimes KAYD or occasionally KSAM-FM will be heard instead.

And yes, Nortena is not Tejano. Two different things.

Is KXGJ in HD now? I'll half to listen to see if I hear the HD Hiss in the sub mid channels over the weekend.

i still like the station, it really has a lot of Nortena hopefully they dont do a lot tejano, a lil is good, but then my fav Estereo Latino has really change how much Nortena music is played, its like one nortena every 30 minutes, then one cumbia, one oldie, one tejano, etc.. and almost no corridos except during the night shift where i really like the mix and they really get down with norteno and corridos

its so boring to me from noon to 7

and yes La Nortena plays alot of tejano and nortenas, its strange to say but thats how it is.

KXGJ is in HD now, I can hear the buzz in 101.5 & 101.9 the diffrent sound so that tells me it is in HD. I should bring my HD Radio down sometime and see how it sounds in HD.

But why make a station surrounded by Ranches HD? Why not make KSEV, KTJM, or KQQK HD instead KXGJ? This is very stupid if you ask me.

They made 101.7 Hd because of its fame, if you listen to it alot of people call to send a shout to their friends. And there are alot of tejano music fans in baycity and around that area thats why they made it Hd. And thats not stupid that is cool.

But when you look at it in a business view, It's plain Stupid. The area has already had one Tejano station that shut down a year ago. And by the reports from jras20, it has come back up again. From what I also hear is that the station was runned by donations, not by adverstising. That tells you something. Besides, I don't think that Bay City even has stores that carry HD radios. Maybe Radio Shack? Who knows. Even in Houston, I found a couple of Best Buys and Circuit Cities that DID NOT have HD Radios. They were advertised, but the sellers had no clue what it was. So, please, imagine how HD will work in Bay city and surrounding areas. The only thing Liberman did was kill two fine local country stations in El Campo and Bay City. If you ask me, Liberman should turn 850 AM into a News station. It has a great signal over Houston and at this point, even I can go and read the news from the Yahoo News section and still pull better numbers than KTRH. But with Liberman, that will never happen.

well Juan let me tell you something, remember that Mega beat Estereo Latino in ratings??? Do you know why??? Well its simple, alot of Estereo Latnio fans have either started listening to La Raza, or La Nortenas so Estereo Latino lost audience

besides Juan the station we had was 106.5 KQQK, tejano and proud all they did was play old school tejano, they didnt play nortenas and cumbias like the tejano station in San Antonio, the stationn in San Antonio plays music like Tigerillos, cumbia kings, well all the music we hear in Estereo Latino they play there, and I heard Mega playing cumbias from Fito Olivares Friday

Estereo Latino is and continues to be the #1 Latin station in Houston... with a share about double that of Mega.

yeah but if you read the rating mega had more ratings than estereo latino
