New Television Station on 51

Some recent FCC Application Activity has been observed from Applicant George Flinn, the winner of this allotment in Auction. I wonder if Jackson will soon be home to yet another new station.

I bet it'll be some kind of informercial or TV preaching station.
Maybe not. I noticed that this one is a full power UHF station that will put a pretty good signal over the metro.RFB

I don't know... TVRadioWorld, which sometimes isn't right, lists TV 51 as WLBT's DT signal. Is Ch 51 WLBT's DT signal? If not, what is WLBT's DT signal?

If this becomes a commercial TV station, this will make it the eighth commercial station in the market (3, 12, 16, 27, 34, 35, 40, 53). That's a lot for a market this size and I didn't even count the other signals in the market (MPB, WBMS 10--which, of course, simulcasts WXMS 27--and Jackson State's channel 61). We'll probably as many signals as Atlanta and other surrounding bigger markets have.

> If not, what is WLBT's DT signal?WLBT has its DTV on channel 9. WJTV is on 52, but will return to 12 as a DTV in 2009.DE

Dr Flinn has a shopping channel here in Memphis, and also owns channel 50 the PAX network, but he leases it out.
2 actually 57 & 67 both are very low power and barely viewable over most of the cityprimary coverage is mainly Bartlett and Cordovabut he does have const. permits to raise 57 to 150kw on ch 15 and 67 to 150kw on 26 i thinkwhich would get them into a good part of the city with a much better signal than the 6kw and 9kw that they currently run.... its flea power when your on such a high uhf channel

I remember that part of WLBT's argument for having its DT switched from 51 to 9 was so this construction permit could be issued. WLBT has elected to have its final Digital signal on Channel 7, I guess in 2009. I hope this guy will put something other than shopping on such a large coverage area. It will seem like a waste of frequency to me.

Yeah, it would be a waste of frequency to put wall to wall preaching, infommercials and shopping network... maybe a real genuine tv station with programming we all enjoy would be awesome, but whats the chances?

Don't know if it would work here, but Chicago has a TV station called Me TV (WWME), which shows nothing but classic TV shows from the 60-80s. It's co-owned with WGN, so it's not like it has to stand on its own two feet. Maybe Flinn could try it here with 51, but he'll need to put some effort behind it.
