Hot 104.5: Is The Third Time The Charm?

After being denied the first 2 times for an STA, Hot 104.5 has filed for a third.

The first STA was located from the top of their building in Metairie. DENIED.

The second STA was located from a tower in Gretna. Again, DENIED!

This one is from a tower near Braithwaite. It'll probably be approved. Why?

This time, they finally realize that they have to incude Empire and Plaquemines Parish in their primary coverage area. However, even if they get this one, they'll completely ignore Plaquemines and focus on the Chocolate City.

http://www.recnet.com/cdbs/goo_curves.php?data=29.5473|89.755|20|130|60|0|283|0|1

Here is the regular coverage area:

http://www.recnet.com/cdbs/goo_curves.php?data=29.562|89.829|7.8|259|60|0|283|0|1

I still think they'll go out of business before the end of the year.

6 On Your Side Live

Anyone watching this show at 10:30 on WDSU? (Assuming you can get it, of course). I can't wait to see if NBC actually bothers to complain about Leno being pre-empted and losing even more viewers to Letterman.

It's kinda a pointless show at that time of night, anyway. Maybe 4:30 would be a better time. We don't need 2 Judge Judys every freakin' day!

<s>Double</s> Redundant Diva In Baton Rouge

I had a chance to listen to Johnny and Michelle on 92.3 and 103.3 recently. Everything was EXACTLY the same, except for the commercials. Credit to Stelly for the overlap below.

diva-overlap.png

Since it seems the 504 and 225 are working together... why don't they realize that they're CANNIBALIZING 103.3 via 92.3? In the recent 12+ BR ratings, Diva 103.3 had a 2.1, and Diva 92.3 had a 0.6. If those 92.3 listeners couldn't get Diva on 92.3 anymore, and they went to 103.3, 103.3 would have a 2.7 12+... 11th in the market! Higher ad rates without BR advertisers having to worry about New Orleans cannibalization!

Sig & Vydra & Tank Suck At Being Rednecks

I had a chance to listen to the Morning Train Wreck in its rockin' country incarnation. They are SO OUT OF PLACE on this station. "Name That Gun"! Hee-haw CRAP!

Their fans from the End days have NOT, and WILL NOT, follow them here. Sorry, Shitadel, you lose. I can't wait for when they start releasing ratings here again, so I can point and laugh.<P ID="signature">______________

WDSU is trying to figure a way to top ratings powerhouse WWL and figure beating Katrina to a pulp is the way to do it... only problem is some people need it but some are just sick of hearing about it in the area... A better place would be at 6:30pm near primetime... but nope , when NBC starts airing say tennis reports, look for leno to be about 11:30 in NOLA..jeez

Yeah it was stated they were paring up a while back... seemed to happen about the same time Hanzo flipped from mornigns on Diva to wake up on Martini... Since according to the Duo they are great friends they decided to pair up (that and you figure McQueen wouldn't have to hire a new mornign crew for 92.3)

But yeah with the playlist under change in NOLA, wonder how long this can keep going on...

Come on, a modern rock mornign program aimed at rednecks... yee Haw.... I will agree after listening, it's completely out of place with some of the segments... (them on a country station is like Ron and Don outside the midwest...way out of place)

Fans of the end are listening but are those who will listen to everything musically or got that much of a like for them two (look for former fans to possibly go to Rod Ryan?!!??!)

they are expanding the playlist compared to before (including some of the stuff I figure they wouldn't play like Rascall Flats which is definite Nashville Pop)... They will do good but I think ratings no more than KKND under the modern rock banner personally

that's my 2 pesos

About WDSU: During Hurricane Rita, KALB TV 5 in Alexandria had live coverage from WDSU. Maybe everyone at channel 6 was tired, but at 7pm WDSU went with NBC's movie, Shrek. Channel 5 in Alexandria has a huge signal and is on many cable systems in Louisiana, they had lots of New Orleans area viewers watching (and I'm not saying that because I voiced their news intros for a few years in the late 80's when I worked in the same building at Power 96.9 and KALB AM580). After they went back to network programming, channel 5 had to pick up the slack. Big missed opportunity for DSU. I'm not sure if KPLC in Lake Charles carried DSU that day or 33 in B.R. I'll add that Rita was not nearly over when DSU went to NBC even for the New Orleans area.

Agreed. I think every station off the air during Katrina and Rita, regardless of reason should have a zero in the ratings for every day their carrier wave was off. It's fair and it makes sense.

In my opinion, Citadel is a "mini Clear Channel."

Will this new STA even reach the metro? If so, does anyone listen? I don't.

I was in Lafayette during Rita and watched KPLC. They stayed on the air, live and local the ENTIRE time. They spent the entire time sitting inside Christus St. Patrick Hospital around a small round table, taking turns talking with one microphone. They wrote pertinent information with a marker on paper and cardboard and placed it in front of the mic. I truly commend them for their effort. I must add that although their horribly weak DT signal went down rather early, they somehow managed to keep their analog signal on the ENTIRE time during Rita.

With respect to Katrina, I spent most of my time in the Ville Platte area (home town) and watched WBRZ (teamed up with WGNO), who did a great job IMO. Also, WWL-TV was available on KLPB-DT 24.3 and was my main source for information. I did spend some time on KALB too and they also should be commended. Hooks, I don't know if you were in CENLA at the time, but I believe it was in 1995 that KALB was covering a bank robbery/kidnapping (Live) and the gunman turned the gun on himself. He pulled the trigger and blew his brains out before KALB could cut away. BIG STINK raised about KALB airing it! So much fallout, KALB offered free counseling to those who were watching. Nothing like seeing Les Golmon with a somber face apologizing to the people of CENLA. Personally, I wanted to see it again HAHA.

DSU ticked me off by not going to Leno at 10:35. I see enough news on TV between 7am and 10:35pm.

Assuming this is it... I figured it out! The reason they played Shrek instead of going round-the-clock news was because they took off! Those goons made a run for it when they found out Katrina was coming. Instead of manning their posts, they jumped into "'dey ride" and hauled tush! LOL

But the 6 On Your Side program is good in some ways. It puts those local and state officials in the Hot Seat and makes them come out with their opinions and explanations of why things happened the way they happened and what they're doing about it all.

WDSU had people in strategic places. The main one being the Hyatt Regency where the mayor was. They also had Heath Allen who ended up stranded on top of the shack at the station transmitter in Chalmette. A home boy who stayed in his hometown to cover a HUGE event. WDSU was also the first station Nagin went to that Saturday night to tell people to get out. He told Norman Robinson, "IF it WASN'T a matter of RED TAPE and LEGAL MATTERS, I would say that there is a MANDATORY EVACUATION of Orleans Parish." The next day..one was called for.

That is true. Heath Allen was here in the city during Katrina! I think WDSU did a terrific job with all the Katrina coverage. WAFB channel 9 in Baton Rouge also did a great job. Hats off to you both.

I'm sorry... yes, you are correct. Heath and quite a few others were here for the storm and I commend them for riding it out and staying here to report on it all. That takes a lot of hard work, courage, and determination to do what they did by staying. I know because I am a journalist as well.

However, what about the people back at the station studios? From what I understand, the had to bail when they found conditions were becoming unstable right after Katrina. The reporters were "on their own." Is this true? I read this in a paper I found at a local coffee shop in Baton Rouge back in October. Channel's 4, 8, and 26 also had an article about them as well.

I agree that the MTW is out of their element with the rockin' country format. as far as the show goes, I like it. But then again, I like the MTW before Katrina. Will the format last here? Who knows. But along with everyone else here, I agree that the new rock format is dead. So what do you do with 106.7 once the rockin' county format is gone? I really don't think that there will be many listening to the live coverage of NASCAR races that they will be carrying. C'mon -- why do thousands of people pay to watch cars go around a track for 200 laps??? To see them crash, of course. So why would someone who can't be at the race, listen to it on the radio when they can watch it on tv?
If the MTW doesn't survive, I suppose 106.7 will be totally automated without any jocks.
