New Time Code Station

Well at least there won't be any doubt as to what time zone will be used. One has a better chance of pitching a penny from City Line Avenue to the moon than he does of hearing that station outside the Eastern Time Zone. No need for GMT on this thing.

I want to be the one who says, "At the tone, four hours, thirty-one minutes, Eastern Daylight-Saving Time."

Chirp, chirp, chirp, pause, beep. Bong, bong, bong, bong...

Sam, your comments about a 1000 watt mono AM graveyard channel that has no longer a purpose to serve is uncalled for. I am deeply offended and I am asking for a complete oral written apology to every market listed on Radio-Info. Until stated...I will boycott satellite and the internet like many of the other morons who like to speculate on how to revive a dead horse on here.

Great post as always Samski. I think we should sign them all off and make only ONE station on every 3rd channel on AM across the country. You'd only have a few signals, but imagine the DX-ing possibilities? And, it could be Hy Lit Radio on every OTHER dial position. I, of course, will program the others. BE BIG!

We have already had 7.333 Mhz. "CHU Canada. Eastern Standard time, 19-hours, 23-minutes"...BEEP, beep, beep. beep.

One of my favs as a kid!

jay...the ironic thing is, out here on the outer banks of NC, i'm getting ALL the graveyard signals from atlantic city, even 1370 WALK, and WCMC 1230, but nearly impossible to pull 1210 kc out of the mud day or night. if i want to listen to the Phillies, it's WMID!

Salt water propagation does do well. I was in Duck, NC a few years ago, and caught the Atlantic City graveyarders and WIBG 1020 local-like during the day. In 1983, I was chief engineer of a 500 watt daytimer in North Kingstown, RI; it could be heard in Harwich on Cape Cod during the day, and had a Portuguese-language show with a large audience SE Mass.

On behalf of my fellow morons ... I don't waste my hard-earned money on satellite (I can pick up satellite in some of my favorite restaurants and when I'm too close to someone's car and I'm FM-scanning and get some weird programming), and I only get Internet stations when I'm on my day job ... which essentially is not a good time to start searching for Internet stations. Then again, I'm 300 miles west of Philadelphia, so the 1340 I monitor is a Connellsville, PA, outlet that simulcasts a pair of FM stations that carry an ABC oldies format. (Not Scott Shannon's, the other one.)

OK, seriously, WHAT-1340's demise is an unfortunate event. Sadly, it is one more AM that once had purpose. In Pittsburgh, I'm beginning to think that is every station on that band.

For the record, CHU/Canada operates at 3330, 7850 and 14670 kHz. The old 7335 frequency was moved up to 7850 due to a realignment on the ITU assignments for shortwave broadcasting.

I too used and STILL use CHU, WWV and WWVH for all of my time needs!

think KYW with time ticks behind the anchors.

...can't be any worse than the sounds of an old clunky teletype that hasn't been used in more than 25 years.
