I appreciate the well-thought out posts and I also appreciate the humor of some, who bait others on this board. It is all part of the conversation about radio. I am a bit tired of hearing about KQMV and Engineering.

Would love to see some posts on successful stations in this market like KMPS, KIRO, KRWM, KWJZ, KZOK (a couple good posts recently), KCMS, KPLZ, KUBE and KJR-AM. These stations are strong in their demos year after year, four book after four book. More interesting is that each have been in their current format for over 15 years and in most cases the airstaffs are veteran and fairly successful and are top ten billers. So the three big criteria: same format, same morning show/airtalent and top billing. Until this year I would have put KMTT in the grouping, but the change in programmers and morning show have changed a successful station. It remains to be seen if they will succeed in the future, I suspect they will do just fine after a down couple of books. I would put KISW in the same grouping, but their current morning show is only a few years old and until last year the station just got back into the top ten in billing.

From a sales point of view I know why these stations win: they are consistent. How do they adapt and keep coming back on the programming side. Ratings go up and down yet these stations bill solid revenue, stay focused in their format and retain their staff, even when attacked. Quite remarkable in my view. (Unless someone wants to hear about THE END, MOVIN or KISS for the 100th time on this board)

The reason why there are so many posts on stations like KISS, MOVIN, and the END is because people enjoy talking about trainwrecks. This goes for anything in today's society. That's why you get your daily Britney update as opposed to news about a-list celebrities that avoid trouble.

The same applies here. On the inside, you admire what successful stations here in Seattle have done to stay on top, but its just more fun to talk about the ones that seem to be spinning out of control.

Thank You BJ Shea.

What can mamma say about these stations?

snore

mamma needs a nap. Ya ya ya

Sad but true that it is easier to attack than compliment the cowboys that are doin well :-\
I'd like to congratulate the stations on top in billing, ratings and keeping their staff around, especially
the staff thing. With all the cutbacks in radio it is becoming pretty rare :'(

110% true! Stations that are run well offer nothing for us to tear apart. On the flipside, when you have a monster mess on your hands everyone (except mamma) offers up what is wrong and how to fix it. The comparison to celeb gossip is so correct. People dont go to TMZ and Perez Hilton everyday to hear how George Clooney is a good guy and walked his dog, but they sure wanna read about how much longer Pappa Spears has control of the piggy bank!

So let me offer praise:

Eric & Co. at KUBE-GREAT job! Your killing the market right now! Keep it up!
KISW-Your perfectly branded right now! And keep an eye on The Mens Room, they are geared to make a huge jump sometime soon! Keep em happy!
KKWF-Fitz is a breath of fresh CHR air into the tired Coutnry format! Excellent! Keep trucking and investing and you will in some time be the #1 Country in Seattle.

See, there you go, positives!

Now we are talking!

Eric and Co at KUBE: best the station has sounded
Ichabod and Co. at KMPS: great job coming back after a strong attack by the WOLF
Bob Riversand Co. strong as ever
Christmas music and Co and KRWM: Big comeback this Fall after a tough Spring and Summer.
Kent and Alan and Co at KPLZ: Great Spring and Summer, Fall KRWM got the Christmas music going.
KCMS and Co: Rock solid year for the second year in a row
KJR-AM, Mitch and Co. Top 5 ratings in AM drive, big year for sports radio.
KWJZ and co: Congratulations of 15 years of Smooth Jazz.
BJ and Co at KISW: After just three years in mornings the station is poised to have great success.

Two stations I suspect will come under attack this year due to their solid ratings. KJR-AM may face a challenge from Bonneville and maybe from an FM at Bonneville or elsewhere in the market. KRWM could also face a challenge. Soft AC is cheap to run and most major markets have at least two. KRWM and KJR-AM seem the obvious choices to get to head to head competition. The question is who will take them on and can they use heritage to win like many of the above stations have it the past.

All I'm going to add here is for KJR AM...it's go0d to see an AM do well. I remember them as a music station and they've always had a place in my heart.
