New Tower South Of 610 South Loop

I was walking throught my neighborhood I saw what looked to be a new antenna tower with flashing lights to the east close to Almeda & Holmes Rd anybody have any info on this antenna tower I have never seen one with flashing light that direction

No. The single night tower is on Jessamine off of Hillcroft between Ashcroft and Rampart. Jessamine runs parallel to Bissonett and Bellaire Blvd.

I drove by there recently and that "tower" is on top of a dump. On-location of a towing/wrecker service with junked cars surrounding, along with tons of people shouting in Español, señor.
Just if ya was curious. :)

So how uses this tower & what is it used for & do they really need the flashing lights?

Could be anyone,
Could be a million things,
and every tower over 200 ft. requires flashing lights.

How you use a tower? Well, it isn't hanging clothes out to dry. I will assume you mean "WHO," Brian. As far as who is concerned, there may be a sign on the gate with a phone number. Write it down and call them. The other way is to go up to the door and knock and ask.

The last I remember about FAA rules concerning towers, any tower over the height of 188 feet has to have flashing lights. The tower also had to be painted in red and white sections. However, it's been awhile since I've seen the FAA requirements. By the way Brian, FAA means the Federal Aviation Administration. They're lit because you don't want aircraft flying into them.

Thank you for the info, Chuck. You are exactly right about the current KGOW antenna location. I was unclear when I posted previously. What I meant was the old 800 watt set up that KILE previously used before the upgrade. I know it's near Almeda, just south of the Dome. I thought that might be what the original poster was referring to and If I'm not completely off of my rocker, KGOW still utilizes the 800w for back-up.

it must be some type of internal "hotline" for junkyards and wrecker service transmissions. Noticed driving by A-Toyo Salvage at N. Shepherd and Tidwell that they have a huge antenna right next to their metal building. Must make for some tense moments during a lightning storm. ;D

Maybe it's me but I don't ever recall hearing of lightning striking metal buildings? Do you?

I'm sure you hear this more times than you care to recollect, but what'chu talking 'bout, Willis? Metal is a conductor of electricity. With the antenna being affixed to the metal building, I would think the lightning would not have much problem travelling throughout the building, after intially striking the top of the antenna. I guess Science class comes in handy in a situation like this...
